  • The Williamson-Plainview and Type Milnesand Sites on the Southern High Plains, New Mexico

Vance T Holliday, Eileen Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•PaleoAmerica•2017•Cited by: 2•References: 13

The Williamson-Plainview site and the better known Milnesand site are two ancient bison (Bison antiquus) kill sites exposed during drought and wind erosion in the 1950s. The two sites are less than 500 m apart and remarkably similar, both extensive bone beds with scores of unfluted lanceolate Paleoindian projectile points: 85 Plainview and 47 Milnesand at Williamson-Plainview and 62 Milnesand and 10 Plainview at the type Milnesand site. In the summer of 1953 the Texas Memorial Museum of Austin, Texas, conducted scientific excavations of a Paleo-Indian bison kill near Milnesand, New Mexico. After the departure of this group from the site, a large number of artifacts were collected from the bison bone bed by Ted Williamson of Milnesand, New Mexico. Because of the site's importance and the paucity of culturally related sites, a detailed description of the artifacts collected by Wil…

  • New Discoveries at the Clovis Site

    Open Access•James M Warnica•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1966•Cited by: 45•References: 9

Excavations at the Clovis site near Portales, New Mexico, in 1962 and 1963 produced much new information on the Llano complex. This work, which was done principally by the El Llano Archaeological Society (Portales, New Mexico), yielded the skeletons of four mammoths and other Pleistocene faunal remains and enlarged the tool inventory of the Llano complex. Significant ancestral ties with the Upper Paleolithic of Siberia, which have been postulated…
