Persistent Disparities: Trends in Rates of Sheltered Homelessness Across Demographic Subgroups in the USA
Characteristics and Prescribing Patterns of Clinicians Waivered to Prescribe Buprenorphine for Opioid Use Disorder Before and After Release of New Practice Guidelines
In this survey of DATA-waivered clinicians, clinician- and systems-level challenges that limit buprenorphine prescribing were observed, even among clinicians approved under the education-exempted guidelines pathway. The findings suggest that as implementation of legislation removing the DATA waiver begins, addressing these barriers could be essential to increasing buprenorphine access
Typologies of mental healthcare discrimination experiences and associations with current provider care ratings: A latent class analysis
Background: Discrimination is experienced across demographic attributes (e.g., race and gender) and vantage points (e.g., personal and vicarious), yet few studies have classified these different experiences of discrimination within healthcare systems. Moreover, which discriminatory experiences have greater influence on patient-reported quality outcomes remains poorly understood. To address these gaps, we used latent class analysis (LCA) to identi…
Mindfulness Training for Primary Care for Portuguese-Speaking Immigrants: A Pilot Study
Background: Portuguese-speaking immigrants are a growing underserved population in the Unites States who experience high levels of psychological distress and increased vulnerability to mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety. Current evidence shows that mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are effective to promote physical and mental health among educated English speakers; nonetheless, the lack of diversity in the mindfulness lit…
Pediatric Aces assessment within a collaborative practice model: Implications for health equity
It is now well understood that exposure to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) is negatively linked to health and well-being across the lifespan. In an effort to disrupt ACEs exposure and its effects, there is a nationwide movement to screen for ACEs in primary care, despite a lack of well-established guidelines for assessing and responding to risk within routine care. Additionally, developing culturally responsive models of ACEs assessment is i…
Understanding the Role of Past Health Care Discrimination in Help-Seeking and Shared Decision-Making for Depression Treatment Preferences
As a part of a larger, mixed-methods research study, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 21 adults with depressive symptoms to understand the role that past health care discrimination plays in shaping help-seeking for depression treatment and receiving preferred treatment modalities. We recruited to achieve heterogeneity of racial/ethnic backgrounds and history of health care discrimination in our participant sample. Participants were Hi…
Depression treatment preferences by race/ethnicity and gender and associations between past healthcare discrimination experiences and present preferences in a nationally representative sample
Commercial Health Plan Coverage of Selected Treatments for Opioid Use Disorders from 2003 to 2014
Opioid use disorders (OUDs) are receiving significant attention in the U.S. as a public health crisis. Access to treatment for OUDs is essential and was expected to improve following implementation of the federal parity law and the Affordable Care Act. This study examines changes in coverage and management of treatments for OUDs (opioid treatment programs (OTPs) as a covered service benefit, buprenorphine as a pharmacy benefit) before, during, an…
