Spatial Patterns of Household-Scale Solar PV Systems in Hungarian Districts
While total solar PV capacity in Hungary was only 1 MW in 2010, this figure had grown to 7551 MW by 2024 as a result of the favorable settlement system, subsidies, and the uncertainty caused by the Russo-Ukrainian war. At that time, more than 6.4% of households were already prosumers. In our study, we focus on Hungarian districts, examining the spatial patterns of household-scale solar PV systems and the main drivers of technology adoption in 202…
Urban shrinkage or urban growth in Europe
In the literature, there is a simultaneous discourse on urban growth and its consequences (Domingo et al., 2021; Rentschler et al., 2023) and on urban shrinkage (Jarzebski et al., 2021; Khavarian-Garmsir, 2023). The primary purpose of creating this figure is to examine how these two processes appear in Europe based on data from 2011 to 2022 and whether there are differences between European countries
Exploring the competitiveness of tourism in Hungary: Recent findings and results
This research evaluates the regionalization of tourism in Hungary, revealing the breakdown of the national gross domestic product (GDP) of tourism. It also explores the density, spatial variations, and features of these indicators. A multimodal approach is used to evaluate the competitiveness of Hungarian counties, and the distribution of these tourism regions is analyzed using the tourism penetration index. Furthermore, regional GDP is calculate…
Social innovation potential and economic power: The example of Hungarian districts
Our previous research on social innovation examined the process, levels, and stakeholders of social innovation, as well as its relationship with technical and technological innovation. The present study analyzes the spatial image created by the social innovation potential and investigates its relationship with the economic power of the neighborhoods. The most important conclusion of the study is that the basic territorial inequality dimensions ar…
Spatial pattern of Olympic medals
Reviving the idea of the ancient Olympics, the modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896 after 1503 years. The first Winter Olympics were organized in 1924 by the French town of Chamonix. In 2024, the 30th Summer Olympics will be held. On the occasion of this, I created my map, on which I depicted the countries of the world in terms of their medals won at the Summer and Winter Olympics
An integrated approach of gravity modelling and spatial planning: The example of US megaregions
Many theoretical works aim to describe the spatial structure of the US, where spatial relations have undergone continuous change. The authors describe the economic spatial structure of the US through bidimensional regression analysis based on a gravity model. The spatial image of megaregions can be examined by can be examined through comparison with the authors' practical results. To what extent does the structure of the economic space justify me…
The breaking points of human development-the separating role of national borders
The human development index (HDI) has been used for a long time for the complex comparison of individual countries (UNDP 2023). According to Waldo Tobler's “First Law of Geography,” the data of each country should theoretically be similar to the values of neighboring countries. At least if land borders are taken into account, since the role of maritime borders is difficult to interpret in terms of similarity between countries. In the following fi…
Happiness and international migration – The spatial dimension of a relationship
The relationship between international migration and happiness is evident and has long been studied in international literature ( Brailovskaia et al., 2017 ; Shamsuddin and Katsaiti, 2020 ; William, 2019). In this study, we examine the relationship between countries’ levels of happiness and net migration rates relative to their neighbours. The question arose as to whether high happiness is, in any case, associated with a positive migration balanc…
The Impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic on the Territorial Characteristics of Hungarian Smes (Special Regards to Tourism)
The study highlights the economic importance and role of the European and Hungarian SMEs (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises) in reducing territorial inequalities, and in contributing to regional development and gives an overview of their basic features and characteristics. In the preparation of this paper, we have relied on specialist literature and the data available on the website of Hungarian Central Statistical Office. During the 2008…
The geographical network of international migration
International migration offers a new field in which the results of network theory can be harvested. Through the migration countries' networks (from where and to where migrants move), we have provided some of the most important tangible outcomes of network analysis in migration statistics. The results of this research establish that there are hubs of international migration. Global migration destinations draw international migrants from greater di…
Modelling the shifting command and control function of cities through a gravity model based bidimensional regression analysis
Regional distribution of immigrants in Hungary - An analytical approach
The study examines the regional peculiarities of immigration in Hungary. We reveal the reasons for immigration and the national differences thereof. We analyse the relations between the share of migrants and the road availability with the help of a road analysis method. The purpose of this study is to analyse the territorial characteristics of those who migrate to our county. We aim to explore the causes of immigration and the national difference…
Az elérhetőség és az idegenforgalom kapcsolata
Az idegenforgalom és a közúti elérhetőség közötti kapcsolat vizsgálata meglehetősen sok módszertani problémát vet fel. Bár a kapcsolat látszólag evidensnek tűnhet, mégis a statisztikai mérés meglehetősen nehéz. így mi nem is a kapcsolat szorosságát igyekeztük vizsgálni, inkább sajátosságait, illetve összetevőit a magyarországi idegenforgalmi régiókban loglineáris modell segítségével. Elemzésünk második részében gravitációs modell segítségével pró…
A hazánkba bevándorlók területi elhelyezkedésének vizsgálata
A tanulmány a hazánkba bevándorlók területi sajátosságait vizsgálja. Feltárjuk a bevándorlás okait, annak nemzeti különbségeit.
Végül a modelleket hasonlítjuk össze stat…
Területi autokorrelációs vizsgálat a Local Moran I módszerével
A Local Moran I módszer a területi autokorreláció vizsgálatának egy új módszere. Újdonsága, hogy nem csupán számértékkel, hanem térinformatikai megjelenítéssel mutatja a területi hasonlóságokat, illetve különbségeket. Cikkünk ezt a módszert néhány hazai példa segítségével mutatja be
A logisztika és szerepe a regionális fejlődésben
Globalization sets off new tendencies in corporate systems of which serious consequences can be observed in spatial processes. Therefore it is important for a unified system of Hungarian Logistical Servicing Centres in order to connect to international flows, thereby helping more regions access to markets. In this way the favourable effects of the TRANSEUROPEAN NETWORK Systems can be utilized, especially by decreasing geographical isolation and d…
