Emotional Support During Separation: Its Sources and Determinants
Analyzing data from the National Survey of Families and Households, this study examines the extent to which men and women rely on informal and formal sources for emotional support during separation and the determining factors of relying on these sources. Tendency to Stigmatize Lesbian Mothers in Custody Cases
Using Goffman's stigma framework, in this study we measured the general public's tendency to stigmatize lesbian mothers and correlated their responses to a custody decision they had to make when the mother was presented as a lesbian. Results indicated no difference between urban and rural residents' responses in terms of their tendency to stigmatize and their custody decisions. Respondents overwhelmingly preferred joint custody. Child Custody Determination: Implications for Lesbian Mothers
Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were completed with eleven legal service professionals including District Court judges, attorneys, guardian ad litems, and court evaluators in Denver, Colorado to explore the issues lcsbian mothers face in child custody cases. In this study the normative aspect and the actual frequency of contact of the relationship between former spouses were explored. Data obtained through in-depth interviews from parents and nonparents indicated that respondents held different guidelines than the perceived societal ones, and the respondents' actual behavior was in agreement with their own norms.
