  • Figures of speech as a linguistic marker of post-traumatic stress disorder

Open Access•Robin Quillivic, Frédérique Gayraud et al.•ARTICLE•Applied Linguistics•2025

This study investigates the use of figures of speech by individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition subsequent to a traumatic event. A large body of literature has addressed the issue of trauma-related metaphors, but other figures of speech have not been investigated. Our goal is to analyze these figures of speech in relation to PTSD and to assess the extent to which such linguistic markers can contribute to …

  • Narration of a collective traumatic event according to the presence of PTSD and considering the social function

Open Access•Laura Charretier, Francis Eustache et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Trauma narratives of individuals exposed to the same collective traumatic event who have developed PTSD are characterized by information about social and family contexts. Trauma narratives of individuals without PTSD show a sense of control and collective support. Associated with PTSD, the social function during the event influences the narrative, involving self-centered statements (first person singular, individual reactions) for exposed civilia…

  • Differences in predictive factors for post-traumatic stress disorder encompassing partial PTSD and full PTSD: A cross-sectional study among individuals exposed to the November 13, 2015 Paris attacks

Open Access•Benoit Berthail, Marion Trousselard et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

This study emphasizes the significance of examining peri-traumatic reactions in PTSD development, suggesting its potential as a straightforward screening tool for post-traumatic stress disorder. It also underscores the influence of prior traumatic experiences, before de novo traumatization, in shaping vulnerability to PTSD and illuminates the crucial role of compromised control of intrusive thoughts that could perpetuate PTSD

The present study was based on empirical data collected during the first phase (2016) of Study 1000, part of the 13-November Program: a corpus of 934 individual interviews conducted 6-11 months after the events. To process this empirical material, the authors used integrated TXM software, which provides several classic textometry tools. They mainly used the lexical specificity analysis tool, which statistically measures the irregularity of the wo…

  • Daily Dynamics of Resting-State Electroencephalographic Theta and Gamma Fluctuations Are Associated With Cognitive Performance in Healthy Aging

Open Access•Kenza Bennis, Francis Eustache et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2024•References: 1

Thus, accounting for daily EEG fluctuations of brain activity contributes to a better understanding of subtle brain changes underlying individuals' cognitive performance in healthy aging. Results also provide arguments for considering the time of day when assessing cognition for old adults in a clinical context

  • Changes over 10 years in the retelling of the flashbulb memories of the attack of 11 September 2001

Fanny Dégeilh, Grégory Lecouvey et al.•ARTICLE•Memory•2021

A flashbulb memory is a highly detailed and vivid autobiographical memory for the circumstances in which one first learned of a surprising, consequential and emotionally arousing event. How retelling of different features of a flashbulb memory changes over time is not totally understood. Moreover, little is known about how the emotional feeling experienced by individuals when they learned about the event modulates these changes. In this study, we…

His first publications in psychophysics centered on the influence of acoustic parameters on various cognitive indices through the free word-association technique. After founding the Cognitive Psychology Laboratory…

  • Word-Association Responses and Severity of Dementia in Alzheimer Disease

Open Access•Francis Eustache, Christiane Cox et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1990

To test the impairment of semantic memory in Alzheimer Disease, two groups of patients (one French and one American) were given a free-word-association task. Analysis showed a strong correlation between the scores of the Mini-Mental State Examination and an index of commonality of responses in both groups. As the severity of dementia increased, Alzheimer patients were less likely to give common responses. Our results are consistent with those of …
