  • Beppu Bay, Japan, as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Michinobu Kuwae, B Finney et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Citada por: 4•Referências: 29

For assessment of the potential of the Beppu Bay sediments as a Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) candidate for the Anthropocene, we have integrated datasets of 99 proxies. The datasets for the sequences date back 100 years for most proxy records and 1300 years for several records. The cumulative number of occurrences of the anthropogenic fingerprint reveal unprecedented increases above the base of the 1953 flood layer at 64.6 c…

  • Pre- and Post-Accident 14 C Activities in tree rings near the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant

Open Access•Tetsuya Matsunaka, Kimikazu Sasa et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Referências: 17

Areas affected by routine radiocarbon ( 14 C) discharges from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) and accidental releases in March 2011 were investigated by analysis of cores from Japanese cypress and cedar trees growing at sites 9 and 24 km northwest of the plant. 14 C concentrations in tree rings from 2008–2014 (before and after the accident) were determined by accelerator mass spectrometry, with 14 C activities in the range 231–…

  • Radiocarbon dating of Chinese Ancient Tea Trees

Open Access•Jia Chen, Hongtao Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Citada por: 2•Referências: 18

The jungles of Linyun and Longlin Autonomous Prefecture, located in the heart of the southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, are home to the oldest tea trees ( Camellia sinensis ) in the world. In the absence of regular annual rings, radiocarbon ( 14 C) dating is one of the most powerful tools that can assist in the determination of the ages and growth rates of these plants. In this work, cores were extracted from large ancient te…
