  • A Bride without a Blessing

    David Brodsky•BOOK•A Bride without a Blessing•2006

David Brodsky uses form and source criticism to date Massekhet Kallah and the first two chapters of Kallah Rabbati - which form a commentary on Massekhet Kallah - to the mid-amoraic period (circa late third and early fifth centuries CE respectively), and to locate their redaction in Babylonia. This makes these two sources the only known rabbinic texts whose final redaction took place in Babylonia during the amoraic period, and establishes them as…

  • Exchange rate variations facing individual industries in developing countries

David Brodsky, David A Brodsky et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•1983

Conventional export statistics are frequently employed both as a guide to the export performance of developing countries and as an indicator of the role of the export sector in economic development. The thesis advanced in the paper is that for a number of specific areas, including the stabilization of export earnings, terms of trade and the degree of raw material processing undertaken by developing countries, the relevant variable is not the nomi…

  • "Witold Gombrowicz and the "Polish October

    Open Access•David Brodsky•ARTICLE•Slavic Review•1980•Cited by: 1

Politically, the phrase "Polish October" refers to the installation of a new government in October 1956, along with the hopes this event inspired for a more liberalized regime. In cultural terms, however, the Polish October is analogous to the "Thaw" in the Soviet Union-but much warmer-and it includes a period of about two or three years, roughly from 1955 to 1958, during which intense debate, settling of accounts, and a reevaluation of tradition…
