Emergency Psychiatric Consultations During and After the Covid-19 Lockdown in Italy. A Multicentre Study
Aims: The aim was to analyse the psychiatric consultations in nine Italian hospital emergency departments, by comparing the lockdown and post-lockdown periods of 2020 with the equivalent periods of 2019. Methods: Characteristics of psychiatric consultations, patients, and drug prescriptions were analyzed. Joinpoint models were used to identify changes in the weekly trend of consultations. Results: A 37.5% decrease in the number of consultations w…
Does self-efficacy in diabetes management differ by type of diabetes and gender? Results from network analysis
This study aims to analyze the correlations and relevance of self-efficacy items in 411 patients with diabetes using network analysis. We found that the self-efficacy items structure is consistent between genders and types of diabetes. However, the strength of item correlations was significantly higher in type 2 diabetes. The items central to the network were following a regular diet in type 2 diabetes and adjusting diet when ill in type 1 diabet…
Neurodevelopmental Trajectories of Preterm Infants of Italian Native-Born and Migrant Mothers and Role of Neonatal Feeding
There is evidence that preterm infants of migrant mothers are at a higher risk of adverse perinatal outcomes than those of native-born mothers, and that human milk feeding is beneficial to infants' neurodevelopment. Using the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI) to classify mother's country of origin, we investigated whether type of neonatal feeding (human milk vs. mixed milk vs. exclusive formula milk) affected preterm newborn neurodevel…
Comparing the prevalence and the risk profile for antenatal depressive symptoms across cultures
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Although several studies have analyzed the risk factors of antenatal and post-partum depression, evidence on the prevalence and the risk profile for antenatal depressive symptoms (ADS) between native-born and different groups of non-native born women living in the same country is scant. The aim of this article is to compare the prevalence and the risk profile for ADS across geographical areas in women recruited from two large…
Measuring parents’ perspective on continuity of care in children with special health care needs
SpeNK-Q proved to be a psychometrically promising instrument. Its utilisation could improve the identification of areas for service development, the delivery of coordinated care and support policy makers in redesigning integrated services
Validity and Reliability of the Italian Version of the Quality of Life, Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire
Quality of life assessment in HIV-positive persons
QoL assessment is currently considered essential for clinical trials in HIV infection, as commonly used end-points (CD4 level, viral load, opportunistic diseases) are inadequate to catch the complexity of treatment outcomes. The World Health Organization has recently developed a standardized set of instruments to assess subjective quality of life (QoL) in different medical conditions, including HIV infection. Here we report evidence for the accep…
DSM-III Mental Disorders in General Medical Sector
In 1987, a multicentric research was carried out in Emilia-Romagna, an adminis trative area in northern Italy. Nine hundred and forty one people in the general medical sector were contacted to enter a two-stage procedure to identify DSM-III cases. Cases were recontacted for 3-month, 1-year and 2-year follow-ups. Eighty cases completing at least the one-year follow-up were analysed. The sample was split into "still-cases" and "no longer-cases" dep…
