  • Validation of the Sibling Perception Questionnaire in healthy siblings of children with chronic illnesses

    Open Access•Abbi L Gutierrez, Christine A Limbers•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2025•References: 35

The purpose of the study was to assess the psychometric properties of the parent-report version of the Sibling Perception Questionnaire (SPQ) in well-siblings. Participants were 200 caregivers of healthy children ages 9-17 years who had a sibling (ages 0-18 years) diagnosed with cancer, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy, spina bifida, or congenital heart disease. The SPQ had acceptable internal consistency reliability for the total score (α = 0…

  • Mothers' Preferences for Their Children's Format for Return to School During the Coronavirus Disease-2019 Pandemic

    Open Access•Christine A Limbers, Christina L Pavlov et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Issues•2023•References: 6

The present study assessed factors associated with maternal preferences for their children's educational format (i.e., completely in-person, completely online/remote, or hybrid of in-person and online/remote) for return to school during the COVID-19 pandemic and whether these associations differed between full-time employed mothers and mothers who were not employed. Participants were 911 mothers of school-aged children from the United States (ful…

  • Parenting Stress in Fathers of Children With Type 1 Diabetes

    Christine A Limbers, Ashley E Teasdale et al.•ARTICLE•Family & Community Health•2018

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate generic and pediatric parenting stress in an international sample of fathers of children with type 1 diabetes. Two-hundred forty-nine fathers of children ages 2 to 10 years with type 1 diabetes completed the Parenting Stress Index, Pediatric Inventory for Parents, Dads' Active Disease Support Scale (DADS), Self-Care Inventory, and a demographic/disease-related questionnaire online. More frequency o…

  • Validity of body mass index in assessing adiposity in Latina/o youth

Christine A Limbers, Rachel Kantor et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Latina/o Psychology•2015

Relatively few studies to date have examined the performance of BMI in detecting excess adiposity in Latina/o youth. The objective of the present study was to assess the validity of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) BMI 95th percentile to identify excess adiposity in a sample of rural Latina/o youth. Height and weight and anthropometric skinfold measures were obtained for 636 third through fifth grade Latina/o students. App…

  • Executive functions and consumption of fruits/ vegetables and high saturated fat foods in young adults

    Open Access•Christine A Limbers, Danielle Young et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2015•Cited by: 7•References: 43

Executive functions play a critical role in regulating eating behaviors and have been shown to be associated with overeating which over time can result in overweight and obesity. There has been a paucity of research examining the associations among healthy dietary behaviors and executive functions utilizing behavioral rating scales of executive functioning. The objective of the present cross-sectional study was to evaluate the associations among …

  • Bayesian Estimation of Graded Response Multilevel Models Using Gibbs Sampling

Open Access•Prathiba Natesan, Christine A Limbers et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2010

The present study presents the formulation of graded response models in the multilevel framework (as nonlinear mixed models) and demonstrates their use in estimating item parameters and investigating the group-level effects for specific covariates using Bayesian estimation. The graded response multilevel model (GRMM) combines the formulation of graded response models with the discrimination parameter fixed at one for all items by Tuerlinckx and W…

  • The PedsQLTM 4.0 Generic Core Scales Young Adult Version

    Open Access•James W Varni, Christine A Limbers•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2009•Cited by: 6•References: 30

This study determined the feasibility, reliability and validity of the 23-item PedsQLTM 4.0 Generic Core Scales Young Adult Version as a multidimensional measure of health-related quality of life. The study population consisted of 1273 students ages 18-25. The PedsQLTM (Physical, Emotional, Social, Work/School Functioning) Young Adult Version and SF-8TM were self-administered. The PedsQLTM evidenced minimal missing responses, achieved excellent r…

  • Parent proxy-report of their children's health-related quality of life

Open Access•James W Varni, Christine A Limbers et al.•ARTICLE•Health and Quality of Life Outcomes•2007

BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measurement has emerged as an important health outcome in clinical trials, clinical practice improvement strategies, and healthcare services research and evaluation. While pediatric patient self-report should be considered the standard for measuring perceived HRQOL, there are circumstances when children are too young, too cognitively impaired, too ill or fatigued to complete a HRQOL instrument, a…

  • Impaired health-related quality of life in children and adolescents with chronic conditions

Open Access•James W Varni, Christine A Limbers et al.•ARTICLE•Health and Quality of Life Outcomes•2007

BACKGROUND: Advances in biomedical science and technology have resulted in dramatic improvements in the healthcare of pediatric chronic conditions. With enhanced survival, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) issues have become more salient. The objectives of this study were to compare generic HRQOL across ten chronic disease clusters and 33 disease categories/severities from the perspectives of patients and parents. Comparisons were also bench…
