The femme factor: Transforming pop culture analyses through femme theory
Scanning the indices of popular culture textbooks reveals an asymmetry: numerous entries on masculinities but not a single femininities entry. What does this asymmetry say about gender theory and, more specifically, femininity? Racist attitudes, out‐groups and the Australian experience
Australia today is a culturally diverse nation with people from over 190 different countries claiming 300 different ancestries. But despite an official commitment to diversity, contemporary Australian society continues to experience tensions between multicultural policies and a legacy of Anglo privilege and cultural dominance. To assess this, the Challenging Racism Project conducted a national survey, commissioned by the Special Broadcasting Serv…
Claiming 'anti-white racism' in Australia: Victimhood, identity, and privilege
This article explores the attitudes and beliefs of 38 people who made claims of anti-white racism in a national survey that measured the extent and variation of racism in Australia. Land and housing as crucibles of racist nationalism: Asian Australians' experiences
Nationwide surveys in 2015-16 in Australia collected data on experiences of racism in various spheres of everyday life, including housing. Of 6,001 respondents, 843 were of an Asian birthplace or background, and 638 spoke an Asian language. These Asian Australians had double the rate of experience of racism than had other Australians, in the form of racist mistrust, disrespect, and name-calling (70% vs 35%). When renting or buying a house, almost…

He identified three possible areas of tension: (1) intercultural citizens may prefer global interculturalism over local interculturalism, (2) some groups may dismiss…
