Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases in Community Settings and Primary Health Care
Cardiovascular diseases are the world's leading cause of mortality, with a high burden especially among vulnerable populations. Interventions for primary prevention need to be further implemented in community and primary health care settings. Context is critically important to understand potential implementation determinants. Therefore, we explored stakeholders' views on the evidence-based SPICES program (EBSP); a multicomponent intervention for …
From abstainer to current drinker
Background: Recent evidence shows that young people started their first alcohol initiation when they were early adolescents (10-14 years of age), while there is still very little scientific understanding concerning the process of alcohol use of this age group. This study examined how adolescents in Thailand emerge to become drinkers. Method: The semi-structured interview with 10-14-year-olds ( n = 61) in Chonburi, province of Thailand. Data were …
The prevalence of and factors related to alcohol consumption among young people in Thailand
Factors associated with alcohol consumption among early adolescents in a province in Eastern region of Thailand
A cross-sectional study was applied to obtain factors associated with alcohol consumption since information among early adolescents in Thailand is limited. Data was collected from December 2016 to March 2017. A questionnaire was developed through a literature review and tested for validation and reliability. Multi-stage random sampling was used to recruit youths aged 10-14 years from Chonburi Province, Thailand. Descriptive statistics (mean and s…
Attending school after treatment for a brain tumor
Reintegration into school is a milestone for childhood brain tumor survivors, as well as for their parents, teachers, and healthcare providers. We explored their experiences following the school re-entry by conducting semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis resulted in four main themes: "school performance," "psychosocial well-being," "support and approach," and "communication and collaboration." Children were pleased to return to school de…
The prevalence of alcohol consumption during early adolescence
This cross-sectional study identified and described the prevalence of alcohol consumption among early adolescents (10–14 years). The participants were 9,509 early adolescents from Chonburi province, Thailand. Of all the adolescents, 31.01% had experience with alcohol drinking, while the current drinkers were 10.94%. Girls were more likely to drink and the amount of current drinkers increased with age (p < 0.001). Adolescents living with divorced …
General practice patients treated for substance use problems
A continuous surveillance of the general practice population treated for substance use problems seems to be feasible and useful. The latter is suggested by the specific profile and the relative magnitude of the population. Inter-regional health system differences should be taken into account to estimate the epidemiology of substance use problems among general practice patients
Why do general practitioners prescribe antidepressants to their patients? A pilot study
BACKGROUND: The frequency of antidepressant (ADs) prescription is high, with general practitioners (GPs) responsible for about 80% of the prescriptions. Some studies considered prescriptions meet DSM criteria, while others stress inadequate use. The importance of biological and psychosocial determinants of GP prescription behaviour remains little explored. We aimed to describe the importance of these biological and psychosocial determinants and t…
