  • The Role of Movement-Specific Reinvestment in Visuomotor Control of Walking by Older Adults

    Open Access•Liis Uiga, Catherine M Capio et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Older adults with a high propensity for movement-specific reinvestment seem to need more time to "plan" future stepping movements, yet show worse stepping accuracy than older adults with a low propensity for movement-specific reinvestment. Future research should examine whether older adults with a higher propensity for reinvestment are more likely to display movement errors that lead to falling

  • Do children emotionally rehearse about their body image

Open Access•Fiona Cm Ling, Fiona Chun Man Ling et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 39

This study examined the association between propensity for emotional rehearsal, body image self-perception and weight status in Chinese Hong Kong pre-adolescents. Children 8-12 years of age ( n = 278) completed measurement of body mass index, body image and emotional rehearsal. Multinomial regression analyses revealed that body mass index was positively associated with body image dissatisfaction and a significant predictor of body size estimation…

  • Scaling sporting equipment for children promotes implicit processes during performance

Open Access•Tim Buszard, Damian Farrow et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2014

  • Distinct task-independent visual thresholds for egocentric and allocentric information pick up

Open Access•Matthieu M de Wit, Jill Van Der Kamp et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2012

  • Stable implicit motor processes despite aerobic locomotor fatigue

    Open Access•Rich Sw Masters, R S W Masters et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2008

  • Passing thoughts on the evolutionary stability of implicit motor behaviour

Open Access•J M Poolton, Jamie Poolton et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2007

  • Knowledge, knerves and know-how

    Open Access•Rich Sw Masters, R S W Masters•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1992•Cited by: 12

Failure of expert motor skill is common in cases where performers are highly motivated to succeed. One cause of this can be an inward focus of attention in which an attempt is made to perform the skill by consciously processing explicit knowledge of how it works. The resulting disruption of the automaticity of the skill leads to its failure. It follows from this that disruption of automatic processing will be avoided if performers have little or …
