Single-parent household structure and poverty are established contributors to delinquency. Guided by General Strain Theory and using secondary data from the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study, this study examined whether child-reported peer …

Understanding socio-cultural factors that influence older (age 50 and up) Black women’s risk for sexually transmitted HIV has often been absent from policies and programs. Social work education programs in the U.S. are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. An assessment tool that assesses efficacy across the four domains, specifically related to antiracism, is essential for practice readiness, assessment, and accountability for future professional social worker…

Social workers’ attitudes toward reparations for African American descendants
Reparations for African Americans in its most basic form amounts to a concerted effort to repair damages from hundreds of years of exploitation and mistreatment toward people of African ancestry. The legacy of chattel slavery manifests in ongoing racial injustices, including gross disparities in health and wealth. The injustices resultant from the system of chattel slavery and its sequela have not been formally addressed by the U.S. government. A…
Measuring social work students reflective learning through role-play and writing
Reflective learning encourages critical thinking, self-awareness, and self-regulation. Role-play and writing exercises benefit reflective learning. Social work students are often anxious, apathetic, or resistant to learning research knowledge and skills. They may view research courses as irrelevant and disconnected from social work practice. Studies suggest that service-learning improves learning outcomes in social work research courses, but less is known about the processes through which these outcomes are achieved. This study explored the perceptions of 70 Masters-level social work student…
