  • Gilaki reverse Ezafe

Open Access•Arsalan Kahnemuyipour, Mansour Shabani et al.•ARTICLE•Syntax•2024•References: 14

This paper examines a nominal linker (known as reverse Ezafe) in the Caspian language Gilaki. It is shown that the nominal linker in Gilaki is in fact the realization of two different morphosyntactic elements with distinct properties. In doing so, we also highlight the differences between reverse Ezafe and Ezafe, found in Persian and other Iranian languages. This study has implications for the typology of nominal linkers, leading to the conclusio…

  • Nominal linkers in Gilaki

Open Access•Mansour Shabani, Sahar Taghipour•ARTICLE•Toronto Working Papers in…•2023

This paper provides a description of noun phrases in the Eshkevarat variety of Gilaki (Northwestern Iranian). In Eshkevarat Gilaki, noun phrases and the majority of adpositional phrases are head final. Some nominal modifiers as well as the complement of postpositions are linked to the head of the phrase by a linking element––known as Reverse Ezafe (Stilo 2004). We show that the Reverse Ezafe appearing in possessive and adpositional contexts has d…

  • Public involvement in the governance of population-level biomedical research

Open Access•Sonja Erikainen, Phoebe Friesen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Medical Ethics•2021

Population-level biomedical research offers new opportunities to improve population health, but also raises new challenges to traditional systems of research governance and ethical oversight. Partly in response to these challenges, various models of public involvement in research are being introduced. Yet, the ways in which public involvement should meet governance challenges are not well understood. We conducted a qualitative study with 36 exper…

  • The Use of Samples Originating From Doping Control Procedures for Research Purposes

Open Access•Thijs Devriendt, Amicia Phillips et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2019

Doping control samples may be used for research purposes by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratories after their compulsory storage period has expired. This study investigates opinions of stakeholders toward the governance of antidoping research on these samples and to evaluate the current framework. Semistructured interviews were conducted with stakeholders in antidoping research. The distinction between research and quality a…

  • Split noun phrase topicalization in Eshkevarat Gilaki

Arsalan Kahnemuyipour, Mansour Shabani•ARTICLE•The Linguistic Review•2018

Split noun phrase topicalization has been the subject of intense studies across languages in the syntactic literature of the last few decades. One of the key questions raised for these constructions is whether they involve syntactic movement or base-generation. This paper explores this phenomenon in two understudied Iranian languages, Gilaki (Northwestern Iranian, Caspien) and Persian. In particular, we explore splits in two contexts, possessive …

  • The challenges of the expanded availability of genomic information

Open Access•Pascal Borry, Heidi Beate Bentzen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Genetics•2017

Rapid advances in microarray and sequencing technologies are making genotyping and genome sequencing more affordable and readily available. There is an expectation that genomic sequencing technologies improve personalized diagnosis and personalized drug therapy. Concurrently, provision of direct-to-consumer genetic testing by commercial providers has enabled individuals' direct access to their genomic data. The expanded availability of genomic da…

  • Challenges of web-based personal genomic data sharing

Open Access•Mansour Shabani, Mahsa Shabani et al.•ARTICLE•Life Sciences Society and Policy•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 39

In order to study the relationship between genes and diseases, the increasing availability and sharing of phenotypic and genotypic data have been promoted as an imperative within the scientific community. In parallel with data sharing practices by clinicians and researchers, recent initiatives have been observed in which individuals are sharing personal genomic data. The involvement of individuals in such initiatives is facilitated by the increas…
