  • A Personal Projects Analysis

Open Access•Kerryellen Vroman, Kerry Chamberlain et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2009•References: 22

Personal Projects Analysis (PPA) offers an alternative approach to studying adaptation to illnesses. This study investigated adaptation to low back pain using PPA to examine the relationship between participants' perceptions of pain, and their functioning and well-being. Participants appraised their five most important projects on 26 dimensions, such as project value, success and difficulty. Factor analyses of the project ratings yielded five dis…

  • Emotional intelligence and relationship quality among couples

    Open Access•Marc A Brackett, Rebecca M Warner et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2005

To assess whether emotional intelligence (EI) is related to self-assessed relationship quality, an ability test of EI and measures of relationship quality were administered to 86 heterosexual couples in a university setting. Results indicated that female partners were significantly higher in EI than male partners and that EI scores were uncorrelated within couples. Two 2 2 multiple analyses of variance (performed separately for positive and negat…

  • Speaker, Partner and Observer Evaluations of Affect during Social Interaction as a Function of Interaction Tempo

    Open Access•Rebecca M Warner•ARTICLE•Journal of Language and Social…•1992•References: 18

Getting-acquainted conversations for 55 dyads were tape recorded. Speaker affect was evaluated by speakers, conversation partners and observers. On-off vocal activity was analysed to yield 14 interaction tempo variables. Factor analysis reduced these to four factor scores. Multiple regression analyses used these interaction tempo factors to predict speaker affect ratings made by speakers, partners, and observers. Speaker evaluations were signific…

  • Dimensions of social interaction tempo

  • Sequential analysis of social interaction

    Rebecca M Warner•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1992•Cited by: 6

Predictability and controllability of events influence attributions and affect in many research domains. In face-to-face social interaction, behavior is predictable from actor's own past behavior (internal determinants) and from partner's past behavior (social determinants). This study assessed how affect ratings are related to predictability of vocal activity from internal and social determinants. Time and frequency domain analysis of on-off voc…

  • Individual differences in vocal activity rhythm

    Open Access•Rebecca M Warner, Kim Mooney•ARTICLE•Journal of Psycholinguistic…•1988•Cited by: 1•References: 24

  • Attributions of personality based on physical appearance, speech, and handwriting

Rebecca M Warner, David B Sugarman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1986•Cited by: 4

The effect of facial appearance, speech style, and handwriting on personality attributions was examined. The source consistency hypothesis predicted that an actor will receive consistent attributions across all three types of information. The differential information hypothesis predicted that different personality dimensions are used to differentiate the actors within each type of information. In a 3 X 6 multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA)…

  • Periodic Rhythms in Conversational Speech

    Open Access•Rebecca M Warner•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•1979•Cited by: 10•References: 24

Spectral analysis of the on-off vocal activity patterns from six conversations indicates that spontaneous speech tends to alternate regularly between periods of high and low activity. These regular cycles are approximately 3 minutes and 6 minutes long. These interaction rhythms may be an emergent property of social systems, or they may be due to internal cognitive or physiological rhythms that affect readiness to initiate activity. The 3-and 6-mi…

  • A new round robin analysis of variance for social interaction data

    Rebecca M Warner, D A Kenny et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1979•Cited by: 29

Experimental social psychology has dealt primarily with situations that are not true social interactions; in a typical study, a subject responds to a fixed, artificial social stimulus such as a photograph, written description, or performance by a confederate. Although these artificial social stimuli provide experimental control over independent variables and can be analyzed using the types of statistical models originally developed for nonsocial …
