  • Priority maps for pollinator habitat enhancement schemes in semi-natural grasslands

    Open Access•Markus A K Sydenham, Katrine Eldegard et al.•ARTICLE•Landscape and Urban Planning•2022

Conserving semi-natural grasslands, a threatened habitat type in European landscapes, is increasingly recognized as a measure to conserve pollinators. Our aim was to test if (a) prediction maps of solitary bee species richness could be used to rank semi-natural grasslands in terms of their potential for supporting wild bees, and (b) if such predictions extend current assessment criteria that determine which grasslands are eligible for being liste…

  • Significant increase in negative impacts on vegetation and soils at informal campsites in a Norwegian national park in the period 1988–2020

Open Access•Øystein Aas, Sindre Kolstad Valan et al.•ARTICLE•Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift -…•2022

The study surveyed changes in vegetation and soil impacts at informal campsites due to visitors in much-visited areas of Femundsmarka National Park, Norway. Data from 1988 were compared with almost similar data in 2020. In general, the number of informal campsites, areas free of vegetation, and the number of damaged trees in 2020 had increased compared with in 1988. The most dramatic change was the increase in damage to trees, which was almost fo…

  • Using Short-Term Monitoring Data to Achieve Goals in a Large-Scale Restoration

    Open Access•Dagmar Hagen, Marianne Evju•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2013•Cited by: 2

To evaluate the outcome of restoration projects, an overall goal, reformulated to specific subgoals or targets, must be explicit and translated into scientifically measurable ecological attributes. Monitoring ecological attributes is necessary to assess restoration progress. Data from long-term monitoring are rarely available when restoration interventions are planned and implemented. In this study, we show how short-term monitoring data are inco…
