  • Holocene vegetation and climate change on the Colorado Plateau in southern Utah, USA

    Open Access•Lisbeth A Louderback, Christopher A Kiahtipes et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

Pollen, plant macrofossils, and sedimentary analyses from archaeological deposits at North Creek Shelter (NCS) on the Colorado Plateau provide data on vegetation and climate change during the Holocene. From 11,300–10,200 cal yr BP, NCS was embedded in a mixed conifer forest of cool-adapted species (e.g., Abies , Pseudotsuga menziesii , and Pinus ponderosa ) with an Artemisia understory. During this interval, NCS pollen corresponds to modern polle…

  • Decolonizing the Anthropocene

    Open Access•Christopher A Kiahtipes, Christopher Kiahtipes•ARTICLE•General Anthropology•2020•References: 11

  • An elusive record further exposed: Additional excavations and chronometric data on human settlement in the northern Congo Basin rain forest, southern Central African Republic

    D N Schmitt, K D Lupo et al.•ARTICLE•Azania Archaeological Research in…•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 34

Recently, Lupo et al. (2015, 2018) reported novel data on the nature and timing of late Holocene human settlement and iron production in the northern Congo Basin rain forest, southern Central African Republic. This paper expands those data by presenting new archaeological and chronological information discovered in field investigations conducted in 2017–2018. Twenty-five archaeological sites were identified and radiocarbon dates from 14 signal hu…

  • An elusive record exposed: Radiocarbon chronology of late Holocene human settlement in the northern Congo Basin, southern Central African Republic

    K D Lupo, Christopher A Kiahtipes et al.•ARTICLE•Azania Archaeological Research in…•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 30

Archaeological surveys and excavations in the NGotto Forest Reserve, Central African Republic, discovered 98 artefact concentrations or cultural features that included ceramic scatters, iron-ore mines and iron smelting features. These investigations provide, for the first time, a series of radiocarbon dates that chronicle the timing and context of prehistoric occupation along the northern margin of the Congo Basin rain forest in the Central Afric…
