  • Creative Use of Mountain Biodiversity Databases: The Kazbegi Research Agenda of Gmba-Diversitas

Open Access•Christof Körner, Christian Körner et al.•ARTICLE•Mountain Research and Development•2007

Geo-referenced archive databases on mountain organisms are very promising tools for achieving a better understanding of mountain biodiversity and predicting its changes. The Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (GMBA) of DIVERSITAS, in cooperation with the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, encourages a global effort to mine biodiversity databases on mountain organisms. The wide range of climatic conditions and topographies across the w…

  • Late Quaternary vegetation and climate history of a perennial river canyon in the Río Salado basin (22°S) of Northern Chile

    Open Access•Claudio Latorre, Julio L Betancourt et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2006

Plant macrofossils from 33 rodent middens sampled at three sites between 2910 and 3150 m elevation in the main canyon of the Río Salado, northern Chile, yield a unique record of vegetation and climate over the past 22,000 cal yr BP. Presence of low-elevation Prepuna taxa throughout the record suggests that mean annual temperature never cooled by more than 5°C and may have been near-modern at 16,270 cal yr BP. Displacements in the lower limits of …

  • Variability of Six STR Loci in Populations from Central Spain

    M S Mesa, Eduardo Arroyo et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2001•Cited by: 1

Allele frequency distributions of six short tandem repeat (STR) loci, HUMTH01, HUMFES/FPS, HUMTPOX, HUMVWF/A31, HUMF13B, and HUMLPL, were determined in a population (101 individuals) of the Vera-Jerte region in West Central Spain. Amplified products were electrophoresed on denaturing polyacrylamide gels and silver-stained. The exact test demonstrated that none of the six loci deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. R-matrix analysis in relation…
