  • Pay the polluter or polluter pays? A preliminary assessment of public preferences for water quality policy

    Open Access•Seojeong Oh, Benjamin M Gramig•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2025

  • Understanding the relationship between land tenure and conservation behavior

    Open Access•Pranay Ranjan, J G Arbuckle et al.•ARTICLE•Land Use Policy•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 22

  • The urgency of transforming the Midwestern U.S. landscape into more than corn and soybean

    Open Access•Linda S Prokopy, Benjamin M Gramig et al.•ARTICLE•Agriculture and Human Values•2020•Cited by: 7

  • Adoption of agricultural conservation practices in the United States

Linda S Prokopy, Kristin Flores et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Soil and Water…•2019

This is a comprehensive review of all published, quantitative studies focused on adoption of agricultural conservation practices in the United States between 1982 and 2017. This review finds that, taken as a whole, few independent variables have a consistent statistically significant relationship with adoption. Analyses showed that variables positively associated with adoption include the farmer self-identifying primarily as stewardship motivated…

  • Harnessing emerging technologies to reduce Gulf hypoxia

    Open Access•Madhu Khanna, Benjamin M Gramig et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Sustainability•2019

  • Climate change beliefs, risk perceptions, and adaptation behavior among Midwestern U.S. crop farmers

Open Access•Amber Saylor Mase, Benjamin M Gramig et al.•ARTICLE•Climate Risk Management•2017

Global climate change presents unique challenges to the resilience of United States agriculture, and farmers and advisors must utilize effective adaptation strategies to be both economically and environmentally sustainable. This study addresses Midwestern U.S. crop farmers’ beliefs about climate change, perceived risks from weather and climate, and attitudes toward adaptation that influence their decisions to adopt adaptation strategies. Analyzin…

  • Finding the Right Value

    Open Access•Amelia Caron Andrews, Rosalee A Clawson et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2017•Cited by: 9•References: 58

By defining the essence of a policy problem, an issue frame shapes how individuals think about a political issue. In this research, we investigate framing effects among domain experts, an understudied yet increasingly important set of individuals in the policymaking process. Because domain experts have extensive and highly structured knowledge on a particular topic, they are likely to actively process issue frames to which they are exposed. Conse…

  • A multiple metrics approach to prioritizing strategies for measuring and managing reactive nitrogen in the San Joaquin Valley of California

    Open Access•Ariel I Horowitz, William R Moomaw et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2016

Human alteration of the nitrogen cycle exceeds the safe planetary boundary for the use of reactive nitrogen (Nr). We complement global analysis by analyzing regional mass flows and the relative consequences of multiple chemical forms of Nr as they ‘cascade’ through multiple environmental media. The goals of this paper are (1) to identify the amounts of Nr that flow through a specific nitrogen rich region, (2) develop multiple metrics to character…
