  • The environmental context of Middle Paleolithic occupations at Arbreda Cave (Serinyà, northeastern Iberian Peninsula)

Open Access•Joaquim Soler, Isaac Rufí et al.•ARTICLE•L Anthropologie•2026

Arbreda Cave in Serinyà (northeastern Catalonia) was periodically occupied by Homo neanderthalensis from 120,000 BP until 42,300–40,300 cal BP. However, the intensity of residential episodes varied significantly throughout the Middle Palaeolithic sequence. During MIS4 and MIS3, the Neanderthal occupations were sparse compared to the pronounced anthropogenic signal of the MIS5 layers. This phenomenon cannot be attributed to the technical capacitie…

  • Assessing the Impact of the Way of Saint James on Psychological Distress and Subjective Well-being

    Open Access•Albert Feliu‐Soler, Estíbaliz Royuela-Colomer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Happiness Studies•2024

This study aimed to examine the impact of a pilgrimage on the Way of St. James on psychological distress and subjective well-being, and to compare these outcomes with a control group on non-pilgrimage vacations. Additionally, the study explored psychological process variables that may mediate the pilgrimage's beneficial effects. A nonrandomized pretest-posttest design was used, involving 444 pilgrims and 124 controls. Participants completed basel…

  • From self-criticism to self-compassion

    Open Access•Joana Vidal, Víctor Ciudad-Fernández et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2024

Self-criticism has been considered as a transdiagnostic dimension that contributes to the development of several mental health difficulties. Moreover, there is a significant association between self-criticism and emotion regulation difficulties. Of special interest are two variables, related to emotion dysregulation, that have garnered significant attention in recent years: emotional overproduction and the perseveration of negative emotions. By c…

  • Contextual-compassion training for borderline personality disorder with long lasting symptoms

    Open Access•Elisabet Casellas‐Pujol, Elisabet Casellas-Pujol et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contextual Behavioral…•2024

Long-term follow-up studies have shown that the symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD) tend to remit over time. However, many patients present long lasting symptoms (LLS), including low mood, emptiness, and persistent impairment in psychosocial adjustment. Given the high rate of LLS in BPD patients, new treatment strategies are needed. We conducted a randomized clinical trial (RCT) to evaluate the efficacy of a novel intervention that …

    Open Access•D G Drucker, F Rivals et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Environments and Humans•2024•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 19

The northeastern Iberian Peninsula acted as a refuge zone during the Late Pleistocene where the persistence of terrestrial ecosystems could provide hunter-gatherers with large prey, mainly horse (Equus ferus) and red deer (Cervus elaphus). Isotopic (δ13C, δ18O, δ15N) and dental wear (mesowear and microwear) analyses have been applied on the remains of both species from the archaeological sites of Arbreda and Bora Gran at Serinyà (Girona), where e…

  • Psychometric properties of the engaged living scale (ELS) Spanish version in a large sample of Spanish pilgrims

Open Access•Jaime Navarrete, Ariadna Colomer‐Carbonell et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contextual Behavioral…•2023

Engaged Living (values clarity and committed action) is a main process of psychological flexibility as defined by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The Engaged Living Scale (ELS) was designed to measure it. The purpose of this study was to translate the ELS to Spanish and to examine the reliability and validity of its scores in a heterogeneous sample of 752 Spanish pilgrims of the Way of Saint James (pre-post analysis: n = 285). Confirmatory fac…

  • Severity in the ICD-11 personality disorder model

Open Access•Fernando Gutiérrez, Anton Aluja et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Severity is the main component of the ICD-11 personality disorder (PD) classification, but pertinent instruments have only recently been developed. We analyzed the psychometric properties of the ICD-11 Personality Disorder Severity scale (PDS-ICD-11) in a mixed sample of 726 community and clinical subjects. We also examined how the different components of the ICD-11 PD system -five trait domains, the borderline pattern specifier, and severity, al…

  • A Functional Connectivity Study to Investigate the Role of the Right Anterior Insula in Modulating Emotional Dysfunction in Borderline Personality Disorder

    Frederic Sampedro, Ignacio Aracil-Bolaños et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2022

OBJECTIVE: Previous imaging studies in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) have detected functional brain dysfunctions. Mindfulness training may improve the symptoms of BPD, although the neural mechanisms involved remain poorly understood. This study had several key aims: a) to investigate the role of right anterior insula (rAI) functional connectivity in modulating baseline emotional status in BPD, b) to compare differences in co…

  • Decentering, Acceptance, and Non-Attachment

    Open Access•Joaquim Soler, Jesús Montero‐Marín et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Among mindfulness measures the three constructs acceptance, decentering, and non-attachment are psychometrically closely related, despite their apparent semantic differences. These three facets present robust psychometric features and can be considered core themes in most “third wave” clinical models. The aim of the present study was to explore the apparently different content domains (acceptance, decentering, and non-attachment) by administering…

  • The residential contexts of Gravettian hunter‐gatherers from Arbreda Cave (Serinyà, Northeast Iberian Peninsula)

Open Access•Isaac Rufí, Núria Morera et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021•Referencias: 22

During the Gravettian, Arbreda Cave was frequently occupied by hunter‐gatherer communities. Within this period, the archeological levels E (Iberian Middle Gravettian) and D (Final Gravettian), dated to ca. 26–20 kyr 14 C BP, are of particular interest, since fieldwork carried out during the 1980s revealed dense accumulations of archeological materials with remarkable concentrations of burnt remains. The archeozoological and taphonomic studies con…

Arbreda Cave is one of the most important sites in the Reclau Caves complex (Serinyà, north-east Iberian Peninsula). Its stratigraphy reveals that the cave was intensively occupied during the Upper Palaeolithic. As in other archaeological sites in the western Mediterranean regions, a shift towards an intensification in small prey exploitation has been observed over the course of this period. This trend is indicated by the presence of large quanti…
