Youth and their vote
The 26th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, ratified in record time on June 30, 1971, lowered the minimum voting age from 21 to 18 years. The amendment became law only three months and seven days after its passage by Congress. Its impact on the remaining state and local elections of 1971 was limited because of residency requirements and registration laws, but the amendment could have a significant effect on 1972 elections
