  • The development of trust in residential environmental education programs

    Nicole M Ardoin, Maria Digiano et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Education Research•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 17

Trust, a relational phenomenon that is an important building block of interpersonal relationships and within society, can also be an intermediary outcome of field-based environmental education programs. Trust creates a foundation for collaboration and decision-making, which are core to many ultimate outcomes of environmental education. Yet, understanding how trust develops among environmental education program participants is still nascent, partl…

  • Using online narratives to explore participant experiences in a residential environmental education program

    Nicole M Ardoin, Maria Digiano et al.•ARTICLE•Children s Geographies•2015•References: 19

Field-based, residential environmental education programs are immersive, science-rich learning experiences that aim to achieve educational, personal growth, and behavioral outcomes. Evaluations of such programs typically use pre- and post-surveys or interviews and, in some cases, participant observation. Understanding how participants respond to, and make meaning of, their experiences in the moment is an understudied facet that could improve prog…

  • Slowing Amazon deforestation through public policy and interventions in beef and soy supply chains

Open Access•Daniel C Nepstad, Daniel Nepstad et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2014

The recent 70% decline in deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon suggests that it is possible to manage the advance of a vast agricultural frontier. Enforcement of laws, interventions in soy and beef supply chains, restrictions on access to credit, and expansion of protected areas appear to have contributed to this decline, as did a decline in the demand for new deforestation. The supply chain interventions that fed into this deceleration are prec…

  • Tenure, tourism and timber in Quintana Roo, Mexico

Open Access•James A Barsimantov, James Barsimantov et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of the…•2009

We present and apply an analytical framework for understanding land tenure change in the wake of radical land policy modifications in Mexico’s communal tenure system. We posit that the changes in land tenure vary as a result of a complex interplay of drivers external and internal to the land tenure unit. Using interview and socio-economic data, we apply this framework to six ejidos in Quintana Roo, Mexico in order to understand the extent to whic…
