Cet article cherche à mettre en lumière les adaptations nécessaires au moment de la vieillesse en s'appuyant sur l'exemple de trois films hollywoodiens. Open Access•Calvin A Colarusso•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•2012•References: 11

Moses Laufer described the central masturbation fantasy as an essentially adolescent phenomenon that leads to the final sexual organization. In this paper the central masturbation fantasy, formulated during the preoedipal and oedipal years, consolidated in adolescence, and in a process of continuous evolution across the life cycle, is considered an essential concept for understanding sexuality in heterosexual males. Sex and aggression, as posited…

  • The Absence of a Future: The Effect of Past Experience and Current Developmental Conflicts On a Midlife Analysis

    Open Access•Calvin A Colarusso•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•2006•References: 3

The four-year analysis of Mr. T., a highly intelligent, successful professional who entered analysis primarily because of a depression is presented; he had had no previous therapeutic experience but was very curious about analysis. The analytic work led to the discovery of a deeply held unconscious conviction of premature death that was related to interaction among the effects of a traumatic parental divorce during childhood, estrangement from bo…

  • The Evolution of Paternal Identity in Late Adulthood

    Open Access•Calvin A Colarusso•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•2005•Cited by: 1•References: 10

The experience of fatherhood in late adulthood has received little attention in the psychoanalytic literature. After a presentation of the literature on fatherhood and a consideration of the developmental tasks of late adulthood in which the experience of fatherhood is embedded, the dynamically charged, developmentally conflicted nature of the relationships between late-life fathers and their children is explored. A basic premise is that the chan…

    Open Access•Calvin A Colarusso•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•2000•Cited by: 7•References: 12

The elaboration of separation-individuation theory in the years beyond childhood has been a psychoanalytic focus for several decades. In this paper, the nature of separation-individuation phenomena in adulthood and the terminology and controversy surrounding the use of the terms third, fourth, and fifth individuation are considered first; a detailed elaboration of the concept of the fifth individuation in late adulthood follows

  • The Development of Time Sense in Middle Adulthood

    Open Access•Calvin A Colarusso•ARTICLE•The Psychoanalytic Quarterly•1999•Cited by: 1•References: 23

The focus of this paper is on the normal, intrapsychic, subjective experience of time in a developmental context. Time sense in middle age is determined less by the chronological age markers of forty or sixty and more by powerful, complex dynamic factors. Issues such as physical aging and illness, relationship to spouse and children, death of parents, and retirement will be explored in terms of how time is experienced

  • The Development of time Sense: From Object Constancy to Adolescence

    Open Access•Calvin A Colarusso•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1987•Cited by: 4•References: 21

A developmental line of time sense during the oedipal phase and latency is described. Subjective lime sense is seen as constantly evolving, shaped by the emergence of cognitive capacities, significant emotional themes, and environmental influences. Temporal development during these phases is unique because the capacity to tell objective time is present for the first time. Significant emotional influences are the Oedipus complex, infantile neurosi…
