  • Jewish Theology and its Sources

    Open Access•Devorah Schoenfeld•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2023

The Cambridge Companion to Jewish Theology1 presents a wide range of sources for contemporary Jewish theology. Part of it consists of chapters that describe a thinker or a body of work, including the Bible, Rabbinic Theology, daily liturgy, Rambam, Kabbalah, Rav Kook, Rosenzweig and Levinas. Devorah Schoenfeld•BOOK•Isaac On Jewish and Christian…•2022

Devorah Schoenfeld's new work offers an in-depth examination of two of the most influential Christian and Jewish Bible commentaries of the High Middle Ages. Monika Czekanowska-Gutman, Amitai Mendelsohn et al.•ARTICLE•Religion and the Arts•2022•References: 1

This paper traces this tradition from Midrashic texts through Hebrew Crusade narratives into works by modern Jewish artists. …

  • Twelfth Century Literal Bible Commentaries

    Open Access•Devorah Schoenfeld•ARTICLE•Religion Compass•2013•References: 11

In the twelfth century, both Jewish and Christian Bible commentators began to emphasize literal, or historical, or contextual, approaches to interpreting scripture. These commentators wrote predominantly line-by-line commentaries that focused the reader's attention on linguistic questions in the biblical text. There was also a renewed interest in seeing the Bible in its own terms rather than exclusively through the lens of earlier midrashic or pa…
