Just Being Doesn't Amount to Anything (Some Themes in Bruce Nauman's Work)
My purpose here is to examine the reception of Bruce Nauman's work in order to clarify the interest it generates in its audience.1 I decided from the outset to regard Nauman as an artist who does not threaten the consciousness of the educated bourgeois individual, who shows psychological abysses that enable that individual to experience the absurdity of his or her own existence.
