  • Implementation of smart devices in health crisis scenarios

Open Access•Roberto Losada Maestre, Rubén Sánchez Medero•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Political Science•2024•References: 7

The scarcity of healthcare resources, particularly during crises, is a reality. AI can help alleviate this deficiency. Tasks such as triage, diagnosis, or determining a patient’s life-threatening risk are some of the applications we can delegate to algorithms. However, the limited number of real clinical experiences and the lack of research on its implementation mean that we only partially understand the risks involved in its development. To cont…

  • Should You Put an Emoticon on Your Flag? How Subliminal Visual Stimuli Can Change Political Opinions

    Open Access•Rubén Sánchez Medero, Roberto Losada Maestre•ARTICLE•Nationalities Papers•2024•References: 94

Political objects, like national flags, arouse emotions even when they are subliminal stimuli. Through two experiments that show subliminal stimuli to the subjects, this article analyzes if those emotions are positive or negative ones—that is to say, if they enhance an inclusive reaction or an excluding one. Besides, the article compares the intensity of the flag’s emotional effect with that of the emoticons, which are figures intended to represe…

  • Color War. Does Color Influence the Perception of Political Messages

Open Access•Roberto Losada Maestre, Rubén Sánchez Medero•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2022

Several studies have shown that exposure to colors affects cognitive and affective processes. In this paper, we tried to find if colors affect the perception of political messages and activate partisan biases. We focus our study on the Spanish cultural environment. In a prestudy ( n = 991), participants identified red as progressive, blue as conservative, and gray as neutral. In two subsequent experiments ( n = 840; n = 938), we analyzed how thes…

  • Democratization in Political Communication

    Open Access•Rubén Sánchez Medero•ARTICLE•Political Studies Review•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 47

Disintermediation allows citizens to directly access political communication. The greater diversity of interactions between political actors results in increased flow of information. This causes decreased effectiveness for gatekeepers and agenda-setters (old media), and makes way for the creation of a deregulated, non-hierarchical, and borderless space, resulting in the empowerment of citizens and the democratization of political communication. T…
