The role of theology in a university curriculum
In this article, I reflect on the role that the teaching of Christian theology would play in the curricula of those universities that understand themselves as places of Christian-inspired culture. I begin with a brief historical overview of the presence of theology in the context of university studies, recalling the views outlined in their respective epochs by Immanuel Kant, John Henry Newman, and Karl Rahner. Dialogue Between Theology and Science
In order to consider the natural sciences as a contemporary locus theologicus, I here examine the meaning and implications of the "dialogue between theology and the sciences". Although widely used, this expression has different meanings. I try to clarify who the interlocutors of the dialogue are, where the dialogue takes place, and what the goals of the dialogue itself are. A coherent agenda to encourage the use of the sciences in theological wor…
A debate between Steve Fuller and Giuseppe Tanzella-Nitti on ‘scientific progress, human progress and Christian theology’
This piece is the first of new annual feature of the journal, entitled ‘Debate’. Two scholars offer their contrasting reflections on a topic of interest – this year, it is ‘scientific progress, human progress and Christian theology’. The debate is opened by American sociologist Steve Fuller, who briefly presents his thesis on the subject, proposing in the end the Church to be more open to an ‘adventurous approach to nature’ in his opinion more co…

However, the access to the notion of God through scientific rationality does not imply a demonstration of its existence, but rather a question on his significance within such context: there must be a space available for a discourse about the Logos which th…
