  • On the Positional Distribution of an Armenian Auxiliary

    Open Access•Arsalan Kahnemuyipour, Karine Megerdoomian•ARTICLE•Syntax•2017•Cited by: 4•References: 31

This paper investigates the positional distribution of an auxiliary clitic in Eastern Armenian in informationally marked sentences. The paper builds on previous work on the distribution of the auxiliary in focus-neutral contexts (Kahnemuyipour & Megerdoomian 2011), where its placement was analyzed as second position within the lower phase domain (orvP), thereby extending the inventory of known second-position phenomena from the clause to the smal…

  • Human language reveals a universal positivity bias

Open Access•Peter Sheridan Dodds, Eric M Clark et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2015

Significance The most commonly used words of 24 corpora across 10 diverse human languages exhibit a clear positive bias, a big data confirmation of the Pollyanna hypothesis. The study’s findings are based on 5 million individual human scores and pave the way for the development of powerful language-based tools for measuring emotion.

  • Event Structure and Complex Predicates in Persian

    Open Access•Karine Megerdoomian•ARTICLE•The Canadian Journal of…•2001

This article investigates the syntactic and semantic properties of complex predicates in Persian in order to isolate the individual contributions of the verbal components. The event structure of causative alternation and unergative verbs is determined, based on a decomposition of the verbal construction into primitive syntactic elements consisting of lexical roots and functional heads, with the latter projecting all arguments of the verbal constr…
