  • Sociocultural influences on healthcare inequalities among Australian Indigenous breast cancer patients

Open Access•Josie Currie, Anthony Bosco et al.•ARTICLE•International Indigenous Policy…•2025

Introduction Healthcare inequalities among Australian Indigenous people are significantly influenced by sociocultural factors. Understanding these influences and potential solutions benefits from insights into behavioural factors in parallel with social and cultural perspectives of beliefs and attitudes. Deeper analysis of breast cancer among Indigenous women is required to better understand factors and solutions to close the inequality gap. Meth…

  • Gender bias in generative artificial intelligence text-to-image depiction of medical students

Open Access•George Currie, Josie Currie et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education Journal•2024

Introduction: In Australia, 54.3% of medical students are women yet they remain under-represented in stereotypical perspectives of medicine. While potentially transformative, generative artificial intelligence (genAI) has the potential for errors, misrepresentations and bias. GenAI text-to-image production could reinforce gender biases making it important to evaluate DALL-E 3 (the text-to-image genAI supported through ChatGPT) representations of …

  • Global Trade, Smuggling, and the Making of Economic Liberalism: Asian Textiles in France 1680–1760

    Open Access•George Currie•ARTICLE•French History•2018

The mockery with which Molière treats those in Le bourgeois gentilhomme who make such efforts to climb the social ladder is instructive in all but one respect: Asian and Asian-style textiles were not worn by les gens de qualité alone. Indeed, Felicia Gottmann cle…

  • Investigation of a “Sun Roll” Effect in Relation to Silbury Hill

Steve Marshall, George Currie et al.•ARTICLE•Time and Mind•2010

A “sun roll” occurs when the angle of the rising or setting sun exactly matches that of a hill; to an observer the sun appears to “roll” up or down the side of the hill. Sun rolls may not be as rare as previously thought; a new methodology for predicting them is tested in practice, using Silbury Hill near Avebury and the area of the West Kennet palisades as a viewing location. Two potential back-sights are investigated that suggest a sun roll dow…

George Currie, John M Graham et al.•BOOK•Origins of CSIRO•1966

March 16th, 1966, marked the jubilee of Commonwealth sponsored scientific research in Australia. In 1916 the Commonwealth Government set up an Advisory Council of Science and Industry. This was the culmination of an interest in scientific research which went back to the very beginning of federation and had been expressed by active attempts to bring science to the aid of agriculture. This book is an account of the developments which led up to the …
