  • Tracking the hog and pig inventory in real-time using nowcasting

    Open Access•Tao Xiong, Zhenfeng Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Food Policy•2026•References: 40

  • Differential brain activations between Democrats and Republicans when considering food purchases

    Open Access•Amanda S Bruce, John M Crespi et al.•ARTICLE•Politics and the Life Sciences•2025•References: 18

We measured brain activity using a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) paradigm and conducted a whole-brain analysis while healthy adult Democrats and Republicans made non-hypothetical food choices. While the food purchase decisions were not significantly different, we found that brain activation during decision-making differs according to the participant's party affiliation. Models of partisanship based on left insula, ventromedial pref…

  • Effect of government quality grade labels on consumer demand for pork chops in the short and long run

    Open Access•Jayson L Lusk, Glynn T Tonsor et al.•ARTICLE•Food Policy•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 1

  • The effects of potential changes in United States beef production on global grazing systems and greenhouse gas emissions

Open Access•Jerome Dumortier, Dermot J Hayes et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2012

We couple a global agricultural production and trade model with a greenhouse gas model to assess leakage associated with modified beef production in the United States. The effects on emissions from agricultural production (i.e., methane and nitrous oxide emissions from livestock and crop management) as well as from land-use change, especially grazing system, are assessed. We find that a reduction of US beef production induces net carbon emissions…

  • Use of U.S. Croplands for Biofuels Increases Greenhouse Gases Through Emissions from Land-Use Change

Open Access•Timothy D Searchinger, Timothy Searchinger et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2008

Most prior studies have found that substituting biofuels for gasoline will reduce greenhouse gases because biofuels sequester carbon through the growth of the feedstock. These analyses have failed to count the carbon emissions that occur as farmers worldwide respond to higher prices and convert forest and grassland to new cropland to replace the grain (or cropland) diverted to biofuels. By using a worldwide agricultural model to estimate emission…
