Abdulrazzak Tamim, Aurélie P Harou et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Development and Cultural…•2025•References: 24

Low fertilizer use by smallholder farmers continues to limit crop yields in sub-Saharan Africa. We study the longer-term outcomes of a field experiment conducted between 2014 and 2016, which found that plot-specific fertilizer recommendations combined with a subsidy increased fertilizer use and maize yields. We return in 2019 and find that effects dissipate after the subsidy is discontinued. Our follow-up results suggest that credit constraints s…

  • Covid-19, climate shocks, and food security linkages: Evidence and perceptions from smallholder farming communities in Tanzania

Open Access•Violet Lasdun, Aurélie P Harou et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Development…•2023

Insights on the indirect effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are critical for designing and implementing policies to alleviate the food security burden it may have caused, and for bolstering rural communities against similar macroeconomic shocks in the future. Yet estimating the causal effects of the pandemic is difficult due to its ubiquitous nature and entanglement with other shocks. In this descriptive study, we combine high-resolution satellite …

Open Access•Pinki Mondal, Ruth Defries et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

Achieving and maintaining food and nutrition security is an important Sustainable Development Goal, especially in countries with largely vulnerable population with high occurrence of hunger and malnutrition. By studying a small-scale agricultural system in India, we aim to understand the current state of dietary diversity and food insecurity among the farmer communities. The study landscape has witnessed a steady rise in multiple cropping (i.e. h…
