  • Beyond Digital Literacy: Exploring Factors Affecting Digital Performance of University Staff

    Open Access•Christopher Koch, Fiona Fehlmann•ARTICLE•Media and Communication•2025

Digital literacy is essential but doesn’t guarantee digital performance. Many researchers consider factors such as attitude, cultural environment, or institutional setting in their frameworks when researching digital literacy. Yet, their significance often gets lost in a catalog of required skills and knowledge. Here we develop a model outlining factors influencing university personnel’s digital performance across diverse tasks, and we discuss as…

  • Worauf achten Lehrkräfte beim Medienkompetenzunterricht? Eine Bestandsaufnahme für die schweizerische Sekundarstufe II

Open Access•Fiona Fehlmann, Christopher Koch et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Communication Sciences•2024

  • Caught in Narrative Patterns? Analysis of the Swiss News Coverage of Christians, Muslims, and Jews

    Open Access•Christopher Koch, Angelica Hüsser•ARTICLE•Religions•2023

The media coverage of religious communities can have an impact on society and contribute to the manifestation of certain images in society. Since recent surveys show social tensions concerning Muslims and Jews, it is important to monitor media coverage. In this study, we investigate the images of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism in the news media. Theoretically, the approaches of framing and narrative patterns are used. The study was conducted in…

  • Das Smartphone-Tagebuch in der Mediennutzungsforschung. Ein qualitativer Methodenansatz unter der Lupe

    Open Access•Christopher Koch, Carmen Koch et al.•ARTICLE•Medien & Kommunikationswissenschaft•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 6

  • “Space means Science, unless it’s about Star Wars”: A qualitative assessment of science communication audience segments

Open Access•Christopher Koch, Mirco Saner et al.•ARTICLE•Public Understanding of Science•2020

Scholars of science communication have identified population segments that differ in their perceptions of and attitudes toward science as well as in their patterns of science-related information and media use. So far, however, most of these studies employed quantitative, standardized methods and their descriptions could not go into qualitative detail. This study fills this gap: It delivers an in-depth description of members of four audience segme…

  • Attitudes towards Englishes in India

    Open Access•Tobias Bernaisch, Christopher Koch•ARTICLE•World Englishes•2016•Cited by: 8•References: 24

With the help of a survey building on 13 bipolar pairs arranged on a six-point semantic differential scale, the present paper studies Indian English speakers' attitudes towards their local variety Indian English contrastively by simultaneously examining their attitudes towards American English, British English and Sri Lankan English. The results show that although Indian speakers of English display a positive attitude towards Indian English, whic…

  • Can Auditors be Independent? Experimental Evidence on the Effects of Client Type

Christopher Koch, Martin Weber et al.•ARTICLE•European Accounting Review•2012

Recent regulatory initiatives stress that an independent oversight board, rather than the management board, should assume the role of auditors' client. In an experiment, we test whether the type of client affects auditors' independence. Unique features of the German institutional setting enable us to realistically vary the type of auditors' client as our treatment variable: we portray the client either as the management preferring aggressive acco…

  • Reliability and Construct Validity of the College Student Stress Scale

    Open Access•Ronald C Feldt, Christopher Koch et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2011

Reliability and construct validity of the 11-item College Student Stress Scale were investigated with exploratory (N = 273) and confirmatory factor analyses (N = 185) in undergraduate college students. Two factors were observed; however, reliability of the 3-item factor was too low and one item failed to load on either factor. A 7-item measure (Factor 1) had acceptable reliability (.81) and good convergence with the Perceived Stress Scale. This m…

  • Representation of Islam and Christianity in the Swiss Media

Urs Dahinden, Christopher Koch et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•2011•Cited by: 5•References: 3

What is the role of the media in multi-religious societies? Are they aggravating latent tensions between religions or rather helping to promote mutual understanding? These are the key research questions addressed in this paper. The discussion in this paper refers to narration and framing as two theoretical approaches from communication science. The empirical findings of a media content analysis in Switzerland show strong differences between Islam…

  • Roman State Religion in the Mirror of Augustan and Late Republican Apologetics†

Christopher Koch, L Philip Barnes et al.•CHAPTER•Roman religion•2003

This chapter secures a hypothesis that in the late Republic and Augustan period, no individual priest of the state religion, coming from the educated class, could carry out his duties with the credulity of an archaic man. Each perceived the discrepancy between the extent of his own spiritual freedom and the world of ideas that he had to reproduce in worship. The state religion for the contemporary Roman was not identical with the entire complex o…

  • Differences and Similarities in Characterizing Terrorists: A Comparison of American and Russian Samples After 9/11

Christopher Koch•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Distress and…•2003

Eighty-three Russian and 185 American students were given a political opinion survey addressing terrorism (Takooshian & Verdi, 1995) and a questionnaire that specifically addressed the terrorist attacks ofSeptember 11th in order to examine attributions made about terrorists shortly after a terrorist attack. The results indicate that both Russians and Americans believe that terrorism should be eliminated and that innocent people should be protecte…

  • Stress, Coping, and Success Among Graduate Students in Clinical Psychology

    Nancy G Nelson, Carol Dell'Oliver et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2001

Research has indicated that coping styles and social support are moderating variables in the relationship between stress and distress. Few studies, however, have examined the relationship between these variables and the relative health and success of graduate students in clinical psychology. We administered measures of stress, psychological health, social support, and coping styles to 53 doctoral students in clinical psychology. Current grade poi…

  • Integrating across the Psychology Curriculum: A follow-up Evaluation Plan

Open Access•Christopher Koch, Travis Doughty•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychology and Theology•1998

Dykstra, Foster, Kleiner, and Koch (1995) presented an integration framework for conducting a curriculum content review. This framework suggests that courses should be structured to allow students to progress through four levels of integration. The present follow-up study shows that students support the classification framework described by Dykstra et al. In addition, the present study describes an evaluation tool for assessing the level of integ…
