  • Utilizing Bowen Family Systems Theory as a Medical Family Therapist to Promote Biopsychosocial-Spiritual Health Across Clinical Settings

Open Access•Mahsa Shahinbana, Jakob F Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•The Family Journal•2026

Integrated behavioral health care (IBHC) requires theoretical foundations that translate family systems thinking into day-to-day medical settings. Bowen family systems theory (BFST) provides such a foundation by adding a multigenerational roadmap for practice. This paper delineates how BFST can guide clinicians in IBHC to foster patient and family resilience while supporting interprofessional collaboration. We describe stage-based applications—jo…

  • Mapping Culture and Sustainability: A Critical Approach to an Abundance of Meanings

Open Access•Hans Dam Christensen, Lisa Gjedde et al.•ARTICLE•Nordisk Museologi•2026

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) address broad environmental, economic and social sustainability concerns. The inclusion of culture was part of the debate until the adoption of the SDGs in 2015. Among other things, the complexity of the meaning of culture alone, and in combination with sustainability, made this inclusion challenging. Along the way, there have been several attempts to define cultural sustainability and make the compos…

  • Fathers Are Frightened but May Not Know It: Considering Masculinity and Attachment When Working With Fathers in Family Therapy

    Open Access•Allen K Sabey, Jakob F Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Theory & Review•2025•References: 23

Given the often‐unacknowledged emotional realities in theory and practice around masculinities and fatherhood, working with fathers in family therapy needs ongoing attention. Therapists' efforts can be enhanced through attending to how men and fathers may have been socialized towards restrictive masculine ideologies (e.g., devaluing emotional experience) and how relevant behavioral patterns, contextualized in gender privilege, are perpetuated thr…

Afarin Rajaei, Andrew S Brimhall et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Family Therapy•2021

The present study explored how couples, in which one partner self-reported receiving a medical diagnosis of stage one or two cancer, fostered a relational perspective regarding cancer via narrative therapy interventions. This is a qualitative study with a multiple case study design and thematic analysis. Eight heterosexual couples (N =16) participated in dyadic, researcher-facilitated, audio-recorded therapeutic sessions (i.e., 208 sessions in on…

  • Museumverse. A New Typology for User Positioning in Museum Dissemination

    Open Access•Jakob F Jensen•ARTICLE•Nordisk Museologi•2021

This article presents a new typology for user positioning in museum dissemination. First, I develop a framework for the typology by identifying relevant, central dimensions and variables within the area of user positioning in museum dissemination. Next, the individual types within the typology is studied and representative cases for each type described. Finally, the conclusion points to different uses and consequences of the typology

  • Learning through exploration at museum exhibitions

    Kristina Maria Madsen, Jakob F Jensen•ARTICLE•Museum Management and Curatorship•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 15

The aim of this article is to discuss the potential of exploration in museum exhibitions as a means of balancing enlightenment and experience. Hypothesizing that exploration can be one approach to dissolving the enlightenment-experience conflict by embedding both aspects within the concept of exploration, users reach enlightenment through explorative experiences. Exploration is discussed, theoretically and empirically, as a structure for creating…

  • Relationship work among young adult couples: Romantic, social, and physiological considerations

    Open Access•Jakob F Jensen, Jakob Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2019

We examined romantic, social, and physiological variables associated with partners discussing romantic challenges together and with friends, a process known as relationship work (RW). Actor‐partner interdependence models examining 71 heterosexual, young adult couples and their friends suggested social network approval, friendship quality, and partners' perspective taking were each associated with partners' RW patterns. Skin conductance activity r…

  • Should I Stay or Go? Examining Indicators of Relationship Commitment in Aggressive Relationships

Morgan L Strickland, Morgan Lancaster et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Feminist Family Therapy•2018•References: 3

The research on the sustainability of aggressive relationships has yet to investigate the way the appraisal process to “settle” (satisfice) or to seek the best option (maximize) in our relationships affects commitment. The purpose of this study was to examine how those who are in aggressive relationships balance relationship commitment with the tendency to satisfice or maximize. Results indicate that satisficing and structural constraints were st…

This study examined 106 romantically involved young adults to determine the frequency of disclosure of romantic problems to both partners and best friends and links to romantic functioning. Results revealed females and males did not differ in frequency of this “relationship work” (RW) with either partners or friends and both engaged in more frequent RW with partners. Simple slopes analyses indicated that discussing romantic problems often with a …

  • Growing old together: Compassionate love and health in older adulthood

    Open Access•Amy J Rauer, Allen K Sabey et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2014•Cited by: 10•References: 52

The health benefits associated with marriage are disproportionately large in older adulthood, due in part to the powerful role spouses play in promoting each other's well-being. What remains unclear is what motivates this caretaking. To determine whether compassionate love plays a role, the current study used an Actor-Partner Interdependence Model to examine how 64 older couples' compassionate love is linked to their health. Feeling compassionate…

    Open Access•Jakob F Jensen, Jens F Jensen•ARTICLE•MedieKultur Journal of media and…•2000
