  • Privacy encounters in Teledialogue

Open Access•Lars Bo Andersen, Ask Risom Bøge et al.•ARTICLE•Information Communication & Society•2018

Privacy is a major concern when new technologies are introduced between public authorities and private citizens. What is meant by privacy, however, is often unclear and contested. Accordingly, this article utilises grounded theory to study privacy empirically in the research and design project Teledialogue aimed at introducing new ways for public case managers and placed children to communicate through IT. The resulting argument is that privacy c…

  • CCTV in Denmark 1954-1982

    Open Access•Peter Lauritsen, Andreas Feuerbach•ARTICLE•Surveillance & Society•2015•References: 3

The article describes how CCTV has evolved in Denmark from 1954, where it is first mentioned in a specialist journal, to 1982, where legislation is passed that regulates how CCTV can be used and by whom. The article identifies four technological frames in which CCTV is placed in the period. Three of these are ‘use-directed’ as they point to various ways of using CCTV and identify certain advantages and obstacles for this use. These three frames a…

  • Spaces of everyday surveillance: Unfolding an analytical concept of participation

    Anders Albrechtslund, Peter Lauritsen•ARTICLE•Geoforum•2013•Cited by: 15•References: 12

  • Overvågning som situeret praksis – et teoretisk bidrag til overvågningsforskningen

    Christopher Gad, Peter Lauritsen•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2010

  • Situated Surveillance: An ethnographic study of fisheries inspection in Denmark

    Open Access•Christopher Gad, Peter Lauritsen•ARTICLE•Surveillance & Society•2009•Cited by: 19

The field of surveillance studies has gained momentum and with that broadened its empirical gaze to include an increasing number of practices. Yet, the theoretical understanding of surveillance has not developed at the same pace.In this article two dominating metaphors, Big Brother and the panopticon, are critically discussed, and it is argued that fresh theoretical and methodological resources are needed. Using the work of Haraway and Latour the…

  • Videnskabelighed i et cyborg-perspektiv - TV-programmet Big Brother som videnskabeligt eksperiment

    C B Jensen, Peter Lauritsen•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2006

Scientificity in a cyborg-approach By what criteria can it be decided whether a statement is scientific or not? Some scholars stress the objectivity of the statement, whereas subjective dimensions of the scientific activity are viewed as bias ideally to be removed. Others abandon the notion of objectivity as the ideal of research, and view scientific authority as an instrument of power. The purpose of this article is to establish a perspective on…

  • Globalisering og "forestillede verdener": En kvalitativ undersøgelse baseret på børnetegninger fra to landsbyer i Peru

Peter Lauritsen, Stinne Højer Mathiasen•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2005

Globalization and ’’Imagined Worlds’’: A Qualitative Study of Children’s Drawings from Two Villages in Peru Globalization is sometimes described in terms of flows delivering resources for the construction of virtual, global worlds. However, the relation between the presence of flows and the actual construction of new imagined worlds is often only assumed and lacks empirical exploration. By analysing drawings made by children in two settlements in…

    Open Access•C B Jensen, Peter Lauritsen•ARTICLE•Science Technology & Human Values•2005•Cited by: 4•References: 14

During the past decade, several governmental reports have discussed how information technology can transform Danish society. Most important among these reports is Digital Denmark from 1999.In this article, the authors examine how to analyze Digital Denmark by considering two strategies for engaging reports. The first aims at uncovering and making explicit hidden assumptions or ideologies in the text. This approach is called "reading against the t…

  • Qualitative research as partial connection: Bypassing the Power-Knowledge Nexus

    Open Access•C B Jensen, Casper Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research•2005•Cited by: 13•References: 16

Qualitative research and methods are often imagined as relating to a problematic, which we here term the power-knowledge nexus. We argue that the dichotomy between power and knowledge, instantiated, for example, by recent postmodern contributions to the field, is theoretically and empirically problematic and suggest that they are organized around a 'bad problem' (Deleuze, 1991). This characterization points us towards an exploration of theoretica…

  • Drawing development: Analysing local understandings of development in three Andean communities

Peter Lauritsen, Stinne Hoejer Mathiasen•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2003•References: 3

This article shows how local understandings of development can be researched empirically by reference to experiences presented from three drawing workshops performed with children in the Ayacucho region in the Peruvian Andes. The children were asked to draw pictures from their community, as they would like it to become in the future. Their drawings are analysed by using an adapted form of Grounded Theory, and further interpreted as expressions of…
