Open Access•Canh Phuc Nguyen, Nguyen Doan et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Public and Cooperative…•2026•References: 4

This study examines the influence of environmental taxes on the shadow economy for a global sample of 61 countries in two subsamples (high‐income group—HIG and low‐ and middle‐income group—LMG) with data available from 2002 to 2018. • What Is the Unexpected Impact of Mandatory Gender-Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value on the Shadow Economy

Open Access•Nguyen Doan, Canh Phuc Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•International Social Science…•2025•References: 65

Laws mandating non-discrimination on the basis of gender (e.g., gender-equal pay for work of equal value) are expected to empower women, especially in employment, to achieve gender equality. We use data from 162 countries from 1995 to 2018 to provide new evidence that this law might have unexpected effects. We find that laws mandating gender-equal pay for work of equal value appear to reduce the size of the shadow economy. On average, the shadow …

  • Information technology and outbound tourism: A cross-country analysis

Open Access•Canh Phuc Nguyen, Christophe Schinckus et al.•ARTICLE•International Social Science…•2025•References: 80

This article provides a comprehensive investigation of the global tourism industry, combining two critical streams from the academic literature: the economic determinants of the tourism industry and the influence of technology on this industry. More precisely, this study examines the influences of technology advancement (Internet and mobile usage) on the outbound tourism (OT) in a global sample. We found interesting and consistent results by appl…

  • Holistic mapping of flood vulnerability in slums areas of Yaounde city, Cameroon through household and institutional surveys

    Open Access•Desmond N Shiwomeh, Sameh A Kantoush et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2024

Urbanization in major cities has resulted in increasing urban slum expansion. This, together with increased climate-change-driven hazards, and deplorable slum characteristics has led to considerably higher flood impacts in slum settlements. As such, there is a need for specialized flood vulnerability assessment tools that integrate features specific to the urban slums. Studies have consecrated efforts to integrated and multidimensional flood vuln…

  • Economic complexity and income inequality: New evidence of a nonlinear effect

Open Access•Canh Phuc Nguyen, Binh Quang Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science Quarterly•2023•References: 48

This study addresses this gap by considering the nonlinear influence of economic complexity on income inequality. Methods Panel quantile regression with fixed effects is applied for a global sample of 121 countries from 1995 to 2018, showing robus…
