  • Developing Essential Biodiversity Variables for the Southern Ocean

Open Access•Charlie Plasman, Alyce M Hancock et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2026

The Southern Ocean is central to global heat and carbon cycling, connecting all the major ocean basins and regulating Earth’s climate system, and hence providing ecosystem services of global significance. However, its ecosystems are increasingly vulnerable to climate change and localized human-induced pressures, such as (biological) resource extraction, pollution, ship traffic, and tourism. Effective conservation and management require systematic…

  • Democratic Regression and Environmental Politics in Indonesia

    Dirk Tomsa, Nick Bax•ARTICLE•Asian Studies Review•2023•Cited by: 6•References: 20

For more than a decade, the quality of democracy around the world has been declining, but we still know little about the diverse impacts of this democratic recession on environmental politics. This article provides new insights about the implications of democratic regression for environmental politics in Indonesia, which is Southeast Asia’s largest democracy, a globally important biodiversity hotspot, and an example of democratic decline. Based o…

  • Spooker Trouper

    Open Access•Jenna Ng, Nick Bax•ARTICLE•Paragraph•2023

This article analyses the 'live' virtual human in ABBA Voyage, the long-awaited concert reunion of the Swedish pop group ABBA, via Vilém Flusser's concept of the digital apparition. It first argues for these virtual performers (dubbed 'ABBA-tars') to be understood as externalized computational codes which shift the grounds of ownership over and consent to the use of one's likeness. They are also key to disproportionate and as yet unaccountable po…

  • Digital Heritage and Public Engagement

    Open Access•Catriona Cooper, David Hadley et al.•ARTICLE•Internet Archaeology•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 2

In recent years, UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and funding bodies have been increasingly championing the merits of co-production between academic researchers and non-HEIs, including community groups. However, these undertakings are often more complex than we are led to believe and the issues encountered are frequently downplayed in published outputs. In this article we review a selection of recent projects in which digital technologies …
