  • Increasing the Use of Newborn Pain Treatment Following the Implementation of a Parent-Targeted Video

Open Access•Michaela Smith, Sandra Dunn et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2024

The video intervention was effective at increasing the use of pain treatment for newborns. Though the overall increases were modest, there were some large increases for specific methods of pain treatment in certain maternal-newborn units, reflecting the diversity in practice and context across different sites

  • Photo-Elicitation Technique

    Open Access•O’brien M Kyololo, Bonnie Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 50

Photo-elicitation interview techniques, a method in which researchers incorporate images to enrich the interview experience, have been gaining traction in numerous spheres of research over the last two decades. Little is, however, written about the utility of the technique in studies involving vulnerable populations in clinical contexts. Drawing on research where researcher-generated photographs were used to elicit mothers' experiences of pain an…

  • The revised International Association for the Study of Pain definition of pain

Srinivasa N Raja, Daniel B Carr et al.•ARTICLE•Pain•2020

The current International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) definition of pain as “An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage” was recommended by the Subcommittee on Taxonomy and adopted by the IASP Council in 1979. This definition has become accepted widely by health care professionals and researchers in the pain field and adopted by several profes…

  • Deep learning and process understanding for data-driven Earth system science

    Open Access•Markus Reichstein, Gustau Camps-Valls et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2019

  • Overview of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) experimental design and organization

Open Access•Veronika Eyring, Sandrine Bony et al.•ARTICLE•Geoscientific Model Development•2016

By coordinating the design and distribution of global climate model simulations of the past, current, and future climate, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) has become one of the foundational elements of climate science. However, the need to address an ever-expanding range of scientific questions arising from more and more research communities has made it necessary to revise the organization of CMIP. After a long and wide community …

  • Perceptions of Health Professionals on Pain in Extremely Low Gestational Age Infants

    Open Access•Sharyn Gibbin, Sharyn Gibbins et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 29

Extremely low gestational age infants (<28 weeks at birth) experience significant pain from repeated therapeutic procedures while hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit. As part of a program of research examining pain in preterm infants, we conducted a qualitatively driven mixed-methods design, supplemented with a qualitative and quantitative component, to understand how health care professionals (HCPs) assess and manage procedural pain…

  • The Influence of Context on Pain Practices in the Nicu

    Open Access•Bonnie Stevens, Shirine Riahi et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2011•Cited by: 5•References: 33

In this qualitative descriptive study, we explored health care professionals' perceptions of the influence of context (i.e., organizational culture, structure, resources, capabilities/competencies, and politics) on evidence-based pain practices. A total of 16 focus groups with 147 health care professionals were conducted in three neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in central and eastern Canada. Three overarching themes emerged from the data, w…

  • Photo Elicitation Interview (PEI)

    Open Access•Iris Epstein, Bonnie Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2006•Cited by: 129•References: 29

When conducting photo elicitation interviews (PEI), researchers introduce photographs into the interview context. Although PEI has been employed across a wide variety of disciplines and participants, little has been written about the use of photographs in interviews with children. In this article, the authors review the use of PEI in a research study that explored the perspectives on camp of children with cancer. In particular, they review some o…

  • Home chemotherapy for children with cancer

Open Access•Bonnie Stevens, Patricia Mckeever et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2004•Cited by: 1

The goal of this study was to determine the perspectives of healthcare professionals (HPs) from community and hospital settings involved in a paediatric home chemotherapy programme. Using a prospective descriptive study design, HPs including paediatricians, community nurses, hospital clinic nurses, administrators and pharmacists were interviewed using a moderately structured open-ended approach. Through inductive content analysis, data were categ…
