The impact of right-wing populist policies on Muslim immigrants in Italy: Integration problems and resistance mechanisms
Humans, Other, and Responsibility in Olga Tokarczuk’s Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead
Human life arises from community. Community is made possible through sharing and communication. The life that modern man has built, however, is centered on man and subordinates the life/being of other beings. The aim of this article is to philosophically analyze Olga Tokarczuk’s Drive Your Plow On the Bones of the Dead in the context of modern man, the Other and responsibility. The article proposes to consider the author’s novel both as a represe…
The Limits of Right-Wing Populist Politics: The Views and Experiences of Turkish Immigrants in Italy
This article argues that Turkish immigrants in Italy manage to build a life outside the sphere of influence of Italian right-wing populist immigration policies. According to the article, the Italian right-wing populist immigration policy pursues a functionalist immigration policy rather than a policy of absolute harshness. This functionalist tendency leads to a softening of the harshness of existing Italian immigration policy in everyday life and…

Ideology, Subject and Gender: Undoing Representations in the Thought of Teresa De Lauretis and Judith Butler
In Louis Althusser's conception of ideology, the subject is linked to gender rules. However, the answer to the question of why there is a collaboration between ideology, subject, and gender is not found in Althusser. Political subjectivity and political struggle therefore remain trapped in class debates for Althusser. Judith Butler and Teresa De Lauretis, similarly situated in their understanding of subject, gender, and politics, extend Althusser…
Reading Roberto Esposito's affirmative biopolitics with Niccolo Machiavelli: Possibilities and Limitations
Roberto Esposito tries to overcome the crisis of contemporary politics by proposing the 'affirmative biopolitics' inspired by Niccolo Machiavelli's way of thinking about politics. But does this proposal for politics allow Esposito to occupy a unique, powerful place in the constitution of contemporary politics, similar to the original position Machiavelli occupied in the constitution of modern politics? Does Esposito's affirmative biopolitics real…
From politics for life to politics against life: “Immunity” as Modern Logic of Politics
The concept of ‘immunity’ is the central notion in Roberto Esposito’s assessments of modern politics. Understanding modern politics from Esposito’s perspective is synonymous with understanding the concept of immunity. However, if one looks at modern political theory, one finds that a number of concepts such as social contract, state/sovereignty, person, property, and liberty stand out as central concepts rather than a single concept. This article…
