Governance pathways in an Asian context
While Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) controversies pose significant risks to corporate performance, the effectiveness of governance mechanisms in mitigating these risks remains largely underexplored, particularly in the context of Asian emerging economies. Hong Kong provides a particularly relevant setting for examining governance and ESG controversies, given its status as a major Asian financial center, concentrated ownership struct…

Blockchain technology (BCT) offers various benefits to small and medium-sized business enterprises (SMEs), but their adoption rates remain low. Previous research has examined only a limited set of barriers and drivers of BCT adoption within specific geographical areas. Mediating Role of Cultural Values in the Impact of Ethical Ideologies on Chinese Consumers’ Ethical Judgments
This paper develops and tests a new conceptual model incorporating the indirect impact of two ethical ideologies (idealism and relativism) on Chinese consumers’ ethical judgments under four ethically problematic consumption situations (active benefit, passive benefit, deceptive practice, and no/indirect harm) through two cultural values (integration and moral discipline). Data from a large-scale online consumer survey in five major Chinese cities…
The Software Piracy Decision-Making Process of Chinese Computer Users
Drawing on Jones's ethical model and Ajzen's theory of planned behavior, this study proposes and tests an integrative model for the decision-making process underlying software piracy. Survey data collected from computer users in Guangzhou, China, in accordance with two software piracy scenarios under study—end user piracy and software counterfeiting—provide general support for the model. Consistent with major propositions of the theory of planned…
Fast Fashion, Sustainability, and the Ethical Appeal of Luxury Brands
The phrase "fast fashion" refers to low-cost clothing collections that mimic current luxury fashion trends. Fast fashion helps sate deeply held desires among young consumers in the industrialized world for luxury fashion, even as it embodies unsustainability. Trends run their course with lightning speed, with today's latest styles swiftly trumping yesterday's, which have already been consigned to the trash bin. This article addresses the inherent…
Determinants of Chinese consumers' green purchase behavior
This study examines the influence of various cultural and psychological factors on the green purchase behavior of Chinese consumers. To this end, a conceptual model has been proposed and subjected to empirical verification with the use of a survey. The survey results obtained in two major Chinese cities provide reasonable support for the validity of the proposed model. Specifically, the findings from the structural‐equation modeling confirm the i…

Green movement in a newly industrializing area
Based on the ecological scale of Maloney et al . (1973, 1975), the present study is aimed to test the relationship between environmental attitudes and behaviour in a more rigorous manner. In doing so, 552 Hong Kong citizens were interviewed and several salient findings were generated. First, along with what is proposed by literature, verbal commitment was found to be the most immediately relevant predictor for one's self‐reported actual environme…
