Beyond roles
This study examines how shared human values and sociodemographic characteristics shape attitudes and perceptions within local food systems, with a particular focus on producer-consumer alignment. Using data collected in 2021 from a representative sample of 1031 consumers and 224 small-scale producers in Hungary, we analyse evaluations of key local food attributes alongside basic human values derived from Schwartz’s Theory of Basic Human Values. F…
How to encourage people to follow a climate-friendly diet? Increase social cohesion
Reducing meat consumption is increasingly recognized as a necessary strategy for mitigating climate change and improving public health. While motivations to reduce meat intake are well documented, few studies have integrated these with basic human values to understand dietary behaviour. This paper addresses this gap by examining how environmental, health, and animal welfare motivations interact with value orientations based on the Schwartz’s theo…
Survival strategies of producers involved in short food supply chains following the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic
The outbreak of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused unprecedented disruption to the global food distribution network (Barrett, 2020; Hobbs, 2020; Torero, 2020). Although the major impact, with the exception of those who suffered from medical issues, appeared to be economic (Béné, 2020; Laborde et al., 2020), the spread of COVID intensified existing concerns regarding the (un)sustainability of the global food system, potential threats t…
Hozzájárul-e a helyi élelmiszer vásárlás a helyi gazdaság fejlődéséhez?
Off to market
The research described in this paper was designed to identify the factors that influence the importance small-scale farmers place on different marketing channels of short food supply chains. The focus concerns two entirely different types of market that are present in the bigger cities in Hungary: ‘conventional’ markets where there are no restrictions on locality but the farmer-market relationship is based on binding contracts, and newly-emergent…
Az élelmiszertermelés relokalizációjának térbeli-társadalmi különbségei Magyarországon
Az elmúlt néhány évben a rövid élelmiszer-ellátási láncok gyors térnyerésének lehettünk tanúi világszerte. Ezzel párhuzamosan egyre erősebb az élelmiszer relokalizációjára vonatkozó politikai törekvés is. Jelen elemzésben a helyi élelmiszerrendszerek térbeli mintázatait és fejlődési lehetőségeit járjuk körül. A döntéshozatal támogatása érdekében kvantitatív vizsgálatot terveztünk, amely szokatlan megközelítés a helyi élelmiszerek relokalizációján…
