The Lull Before the Storm? Criminal Justice, Crime and Incarceration in Russia (2000–2020)
The article reviews the design of the criminal justice system and trends in crime in Russia over the last two decades (2000–2020). First, we argue that the criminal justice system is built upon the idea of meeting quotas, which ensures its accountability to the Russian state and downplays its transparency and crime-control efficiency.
