  • Residential Architecture

Roald Docter, Brian R Doak et al.•CHAPTER•Oxford Handbook of the Phoenician…•2019

For more than thirty-five years, the story of Phoenician-Punic residential architecture has always taken its cue from the 1982 volume of Frank Braemer that dealt with the Iron Age Levant. In the West, a similar source had been virtually absent. A remarkable number of new studies and publications of archaeological discoveries over the last decade, however, have allowed us to complement this eastern perspective. This chapter addresses a wide range …

  • The Impact of Spatial Sampling and Migration on the Interpretation of Complex Archaeological Ground‐penetrating Radar Data

    Open Access•Lieven Verdonck, Devi Taelman et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 13

In this paper, the impact of spatial sample density and three‐dimensional migration processing on the interpretation of archaeological ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) data is assessed. First, the question of how to determine the sample interval required to take full advantage of the spatial resolution capabilities of GPR without oversampling is addressed. To this end, we transform a test profile into the frequency–wavenumber ( f–k ) domain and est…

  • Integrating geomatics in archaeological research at the site of Thorikos (Greece)

Open Access•Cornelis Stal, Kim Van Liefferinge et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2014•Cited by: 12•References: 3

  • Reconsidering the role of Thorikos within the Laurion silver mining area (Attica, Greece) through hydrological analyses

Open Access•Kim Van Liefferinge, Martinus van den Berg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2013•References: 2

  • Ground‐penetrating radar survey over bronze age circular monuments on a sandy soil, complemented with electromagnetic induction and fluxgate gradiometer data

    Open Access•Lieven Verdonck, David Simpson et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 3

This paper presents a ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) survey over two circular structures originally surrounding Bronze Age burial mounds at the site of Koekelare (western Belgium). The region is characterized by sandy soils. Their low water storage capacity and the consequent moisture contrasts in dry summers played an important role in the detection of over 1000 Bronze Age funeral monuments through aerial archaeology in the past few decades. At …

  • Helikite aerial photography – a versatile means of unmanned, radio controlled, low‐altitude aerial archaeology

    Open Access•Geert Verhoeven, Geert J Verhoeven et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2009•Cited by: 3•References: 2

During the past 100 years, various devices have been developed and applied in order to acquire archaeologically useful aerial imagery from low altitudes (e.g. balloons, kites, poles). This paper introduces Helikite aerial photography (HAP), a new form of close range aerial photography suitable for site or defined area photography, based on a camera suspended from a Helikite: a combination of both a helium balloon and kite wings. By largely overco…

  • The triangular model as an instrument for visualising and analysing residuality
