  • Palestine

Ibrahim Taha, Waïl S Hassan•BOOK•The Oxford Handbook of Arab…•2017

This chapter discusses the beginnings of the novelistic tradition in Palestine. It first provides a brief historical overview of the Palestinian novel before discussing the three major spaces into which Palestinian literature in general is divided: inside Israel, in the Occupied Territories (the West Bank and the Gaza Strip) since 1967, and in the Diaspora. It then considers the works of Palestinian writers in Israel that focus on the Intifada, i…

  • Semiotics of ideocriticism

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•ARTICLE•Semiotica•2017•References: 5

The primary aim of the present paper is to examine the interrelations between definite ideologies and literature, more precisely the ways established ideologies are modeled in literature. The article therefore tries to examine two interwoven systems of signs: ideology as a semiotic system per se and the ideology within the literature; each has its own logical semiotics. For instance, on one side the ideology of feminism, or ecology, has two strat…

  • Anthroposemiotics of literature

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•ARTICLE•Semiotica•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 28

Semiotics is not merely about knowledge but primarily about knowing. Representation is about knowledge while literature as a semiotic medium is about modeling. Modeling is not a technique used by writers to represent the world but a target meant to show the way the writer models the world so that the reader responds accordingly and offers her/his own model. Knowing as semiosis is produced from such a kind of comparison between the two models. Mea…

  • Semiotics of literary meaning

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•EDITOR•ARTICLE•Semiotica•2002

  • Text-genre interrelations

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•ARTICLE•Semiotica•2000•Cited by: 1

  • The literary communication pact

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•ARTICLE•Semiotica•1997•Cited by: 1

L'A. propo…

  • Openness and Closedness

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•ARTICLE•Journal of Arabic and Islamic…•1970

The discussion of the four categories of ending and closure in modern Arabic literature in terms of openness and closedness clearly indicates the interrelations between the ending and the model of the textual reality, and the interrelations between this model and the extra-literary reality. It seems that when the historical, and especially the political and the social reality slaps writers across the face and stands before them in all its might a…

  • The Power of the Title "Why Have you Left the Horse Alone" by Maḥmūd Darwīsh

    Open Access•Ibrahim Taha•ARTICLE•Journal of Arabic and Islamic…•1970

This article deals with various functions of the title of Darwīsh’s collection Why Have You Left the Horse Alone in three different contexts: as an independent and separate text; in relation to the poem in which it originally appeared; and in relation to all the poems in the collection. Our case discussion shows that the interpretation of the title means in fact a discussion of the entire text, or rather of all these texts. It also shows that the…
