  • Incidence of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome by Occupation – 10-Year follow-up of the Gutenberg Health Study

Open Access•Juliane Bauer, Janice Hegewald et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

This study shows wide differences in the incidence of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome between occupational groups and highlights the vulnerability of certain occupations. As the workplace is an important platform for interventions, the findings of this study could guide the development of more nuanced and effective workplace health initiatives to promote a healthier workforce for the future

  • Burnout, self-rated general health and life satisfaction among teachers and other academic occupational groups

Open Access•Till Beutel, Clemens Koestner et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Introduction: Teachers work in a job with specific demands that can strain individual coping capabilities and can pose a risk for the development of psychological problems. Prior studies showed that teachers - in comparison with other occupational groups - had high risks of job-related psychological exhaustion. In our study we compared teachers and other occupational groups on burnout, general life satisfaction and self-rated general health. In a…

  • Anterior Chamber Angle in Adults Born Extremely, Very, and Moderately Preterm with and without Retinopathy of Prematurity—Results of the Gutenberg Prematurity Eye Study

Open Access•Achim Fieß, Sandra Gißler et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

  • The Gutenberg health study

Open Access•Matthias Nuebling, Janice Hegewald et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Both the COPSOQ and ERI instruments show good criterion validity and adequately predict contemporaneously measured self-reported measurements of health and (occupational) well-being. However, the COPSOQ provides a more detailed picture of working conditions and might be preferable for improvment strategies in workplaces. Additional prospective research with shorter follow-up times would be beneficial for estimating dose-response relationships

  • The burdens of poverty during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Julia Petersen, Nora Hettich et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sociology•2022•References: 12

Our results indicate a widening in the gap between the rich and the poor at the beginning of the pandemic. Gender differences concerning economic changes affect more affluent women, but women in both income groups are more burdened by care responsibilities, which might indicate a heightened resurgence of gender role in times of crisis. This increase in inequality might have impacted social cohesion

  • Association of Birth Weight with Central and Peripheral Corneal Thickness in Adulthood—Results from the Population-Based German Gutenberg Health Study

Open Access•Achim Fieß, Michael S Urschitz et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

Purpose: Low birth weight (BW) is associated with altered ocular geometry such as a steeper corneal shape in adulthood. However, it is unclear whether low birth weight affects corneal thickness development in the center or periphery in adulthood which may contribute to ocular disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate corneal thickness in former low birth weight individuals in adulthood. Methods: The German Gutenberg Health Study is a …
