  • Novi rezultati datiranja Vindije, Velike pećine (Kličevica) i Mujine pećine U-Th metodom i njihova implikacija za kronologiju srednjeg paleolitika u Hrvatskoj

    Open Access•Ivor Karavanić, Fred H Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Collegium Antropologicum•2021•Citada por: 2

This paper reports new results obtained by Uranium-Thorium (U-Th) dating of animal bones, tooth and flowstone samples from three Croatian Middle Paleolithic sites. Dates were obtained on bones and teeth from Vindija (Hrvatsko zagorje) and flowstones from Velika pećina in Kličevica and Mujina pećina (both in Dalmatia). Obtained results support the previously established chronology of the Middle Paleolithic of Croatia by confirming that the oldest …

  • Radiocarbon Constraints on the Age of the World’s Highest-Elevation Cave-Bear Population, Conturines Cave (Dolomites, Northern Italy)

    Open Access•Christoph Spötl, Paula J Reimer et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2018•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 40

We report radiocarbon ( 14 C) dates on bone samples of Ursus ladinicus , a small cave bear species well adapted to a life in the mountains, whose remains were found in Conturines Cave. Located at 2775 m asl in the Dolomites of northern Italy, this cave is by far the highest known cave bear site worldwide. Eleven 14 C dates obtained by the Belfast and Oxford laboratories on samples showing good collagen preservation yielded consistent ages in exce…

  • Niche partitioning between two sympatric genetically distinct cave bears (Ursus spelaeus and Ursus ingressus) and brown bear (Ursus arctos) from Austria

  • Age Determination of Fossil Bones from the Vindija Neanderthal Site in Croatia

Open Access•Eva Maria Wild, Maja Paunović et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2001•Citada por: 27•Referencias: 16

Vindija cave in Croatia is famous for the Neanderthal bones found in layer G of its sediment profile. Radiocarbon dating has been performed mainly on this layer due to the great interest in its fossils. In addition to Neanderthal remains, the sediment in layer G contains bones from the cave bear. Cave bear bones are found also in other layers of the sediment profile and offer the possibility of studying the bears' evolutionary mode. Therefore, we…
