  • Sujetos y certidumbres neoliberales.

• Immigrant Students and the Ecology of Externalization in a Secondary School in Spain

    Open Access•D Poveda, M I J Rubio et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropology & Education Quarterly•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 26

We examine how counselors, teachers, and other professionals at a secondary school in Madrid (Spain) understand cultural diversity and work with immigrant students' educational circumstances. Our analysis suggests that cultural diversity is largely construed as a problem and the explanation of educational difficulties is organized around an "externalizing logic" in which responsibility for educational outcomes is transferred to process and progra…

  • The role of institutional, family and peer-based discourses and practices in the construction of students' socio-academic trajectories

    D Poveda, M I J Rubio et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnography & Education•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 8

In this article, we discuss findings from multi-level ethnography conducted in a secondary school located in Madrid (Spain). The study focuses on the variety of institutional, family and peer-based factors that contribute to the construction of students' socio-academic trajectories. In particular, we attempt to understand the role these social fields play in the construction of educational careers that are comparatively less successful in the cas…

    Open Access•Marie-Jose Devillard, Marie José Devillard et al.•ARTICLE•Política y Sociedad•2012•Cited by: 10

In this article we underscore the similarities between the dialogical interchange developed during the fieldwork as well as those performed at an interview context. We consider that, in both cases, the researcher has to get close to the distinctive register of the ordinary conversation, and to the complexity of the subject's experience in short. Access to this level cannot be left at random of the anthropologist's intuition neither to a spontaneo…
