More of the same or one step further? A comparative analysis of work on digital home care platforms in Belgium and Spain
This paper examines how digital care platforms interact with different institutional contexts and regulatory frameworks in the domestic labour sector and demonstrates the outcomes of this interaction in terms of power dynamics, employment arrangements and working conditions. By contrasting two qualitative studies of domestic care platforms in Belgium and Spain in a cross-national comparative analysis, we show that national institutions not only s…
Trust in autonomous vehicles
This paper investigates elements of trust in autonomous vehicles (AVs). We conducted online co-creation workshops with 22 participants, using design probes to explore trust and AVs in relation to people's everyday lives. Using a socio-technical perspective, we s…
Automating the first and last mile? Reframing the 'challenges' of everyday mobilities
In this article, we interrogate the utility of conceptualising the ‘first and last mile’ (FLM) as a ‘challenge’ to be addressed through automated and integrated mobility services. We critically engage with the concept through a design anthropological approach which takes two steps so as: to complicate literatures that construct the FLM as a place where automated, service-based and micro-mobility innovations will engender sustainable modal choices…
