  • A Provenance Study of Early Bronze Age Artefacts Found in Asturias (Spain) by Means of Metal Impurities and Lead, Copper and Antimony Isotopic Compositions

    Open Access•A Reguera‐Galan, Aida Reguera-Galan et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 45

We describe here the first combined isotopic and impurities study on 27 copper artefacts found in the north‐west of Spain. This study follows previous studies on the lead isotopic composition of copper ores in three local mines that were exploited during the Bronze Age. The levels of impurities found were clearly different from ingots and axes, with ingots having much higher levels of impurities. It was not possible to differentiate the origin of…

Bell Beaker Relationships in the Central Cantabrian Region and the Cooper Praehistoric Mine…

  • Isotopic Composition of Lead in Copper Ores and a Copper Artefact from the L a P rofunda Mine ( L eón, S pain)

    Open Access•Gonzalo Huelga-Suarez, G HUELGA‐SUAREZ et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 12

This paper continues the characterization of the lead isotopic fingerprint of ancient copper mines in the north‐west of S pain. In this work, the lead isotopic compositions found in copper ores from the L a P rofunda mine are presented. Azurites and malachites sampled from this deposit were subjected to lead isotope analysis by multicollector ICP – MS . The results showed a clear radiogenic lead signature compatible with the presence of uranium‐r…

  • Defining the Lead Isotopic Fingerprint of Copper Ores from North-West Spain: The El Milagro Mine (Asturias)

    Open Access•Gonzalo Huelga-Suarez, Mariella Moldovan et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 10

This study is focused on the El Milagro mine (Asturias, Spain) and is part of a large-scale effort on the measurement of the lead isotopic composition of Spanish copper ores from prehistoric mines in the provinces of Asturias and León, from which no data were available until recently. Lead isotopic values are compared to the published lead data from the El Aramo mine in the same region. The results show that both mines have a very similar lead is…

Open Access•Miguel Ángel De Blas Cortina•ARTICLE•Zephyrvs•2013

The earliest signs of anthropogenic involvement in the Bay of Gijón may reveal early pastoralism around 7300 cal BP, whereas the farming of cereals is documented in the same area (Mount Areo) around 4700-4500 cal BC. From 4300 cal BC was to see the raising of the most ancient barrows in parallel to the consolidation of the livestock breeding economy. Around 5000 cal BC, the sea level rose to close to that of the present day, submerging a wide coa…

  • Lead Isotopic Analysis of Copper Ores From the Sierra El Aramo (Asturias, Spain)

    Open Access•Gonzalo Huelga-Suarez, G HUELGA‐SUAREZ et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 22

This study presents the first ever lead isotope ratio data for copper ore samples (malachite and azurite) from the Sierra El Aramo (Asturias, northwestern Spain). The aim of this study was to supplement information in the existing reference database on the lead isotopic composition of Spanish ores. The Sierra El Aramo is particularly important because, while no data for the Asturian ores have been published so far, this northern province of Spain…

  • Túmulos enigmáticos sin ofrendas: A propósito de Monte Deva V (Gijón) y Berducedo (Allande), en Asturias

Open Access•Miguel Ángel De Blas Cortina•ARTICLE•Trabajos de Prehistoria•2004•Cited by: 1
