  • Paleoenvironmental changes in a lower Rio Negro floodplain lake (Anavilhanas Archipelago, Brazil) during the past 4550 years

Open Access•Renato Campello Cordeiro, Caroline Rocha Maia et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2025•Referências: 114

This study investigates Holocene climate variability and its influence on organic carbon accumulation patterns in the Anavilhanas Archipelago, Rio Negro, Brazilian Amazon. We analyzed a 404 cm sediment core from a floodplain lake to reconstruct paleoenvironmental changes and carbon storage dynamics over the last 4550 cal yr BP. The Middle to Late-Holocene transition (4550–4270 cal yr BP) was characterized by significant hydrological changes. Low …

  • Distribuição Temporal E Espacial Da Malária No Amazonas, De 2003 a 2019

    Open Access•Fernanda Rodrigues Fonseca, Jean-Michel Martinez et al.•ARTICLE•Hygeia - Revista Brasileira de…•2023

The study aims to know the evolution of the malaria incidence in the municipalities of the state of Amazonas, during the period from 2003 to 2019, as well as to analyze the existence of seasonality of the disease. Using Pettitt's statistical test, changes in the pattern of malaria distribution were found, especially after 2011. On average, high values of malaria incidence were observed until 2010/2011, reaching, in some municipalities, a monthly …

  • Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Suspended Sediments in the Negro River, Amazon Basin, from In Situ and Sentinel-2 Remote Sensing Data

Open Access•Rogério Ribeiro Marinho, Tristan Harmel et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2021

Monitoring suspended sediments through remote sensing data in black-water rivers is a challenge. Herein, remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) from in situ measurements and Sentinel-2 Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) images were used to estimate the suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the largest black-water river of the Amazon basin. The Negro River exhibits extremely low Rrs values ( 7 m−1) caused by the high amount of dissolved organic carbon …

  • Evolution of the riverine nutrient export to the Tropical Atlantic over the last 15 years

    Open Access•Julien Jouanno, Jean‐Sébastien Moquet et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

The Tropical Atlantic is facing a massive proliferation of Sargassum since 2011, with severe environmental and socioeconomic impacts. As a contribution to this proliferation, an increase in nutrient inputs from the tropical rivers, in response to climate and land use changes or increasing urbanization, has been often suggested and widely reported in the scientific and public literature. Here we discuss whether changes in river nutrient inputs cou…

  • Social Vulnerability to Climatic Shocks Is Shaped by Urban Accessibility

Open Access•Luke Parry, Brendan Sturgeon et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2018•Citada por: 13•Referências: 93

Despite growing interest in urban vulnerability to climatic change, there is no systematic understanding of why some urban centers have greater social vulnerability than others. In this article, we ask whether the social vulnerability of Amazonian cities to floods and droughts is linked to differences in their spatial accessibility. To assess the accessibility of 310 urban centers, we developed a travel network and derived measures of connectivit…

The dissolved and sediment yields from the Andes of Bolivia to the Madeira river in the brazilian Amazon The Madeira river is the main Southern tributary of the Amazon, and the second Andean tributary of the drainage basin. The use of Bolivian data from the PHICAB, and Brazilian data from the DNAEE, allow to estimate the dissolved and sediment yields evolution, from the Andes to the Amazon river. Dissolved yield [36 106 t yr1 at Villabella] incre…
