The relationships between objective neighborhood characteristics and the wellbeing of 2421 elderly federally-assisted housing tenants were investigated. Six factors were derived from the 1970 Census characteristics of the social areas in which 150 housing projects were located. The relationship between conformity to social norms, persuasibility and counternormative persuasion was studied among residents of a home for aged. In general the residents were highly persuasible and some were clearly more persuasible than others.
